<upd_detl>I think the older references are trying to distinguish between よぎる and すぎる, but the masses are treating 過ぎる as applying to both.
The point is that it's "uk".</upd_detl>
<upd_refs>過る 9575
As well as GG5, 過ぎる/よぎる is in the 中辞典, ルミナス and Grand Concise JEs, and the Nelson and S&H kanwas.
268,000. (Not to be taken that seriously, but interesting figures.)</upd_refs>

<upd_detl>Currently the kanji 過 has the kun-readings
I propose changing this to
The readings -す. ぎ are redundant.
(I think dashes should be reserved for readings that only are used as prefixes or suffixes, e.g.
In principle あやま.ち is redundant, but considering the n-grams (過ち 553735, 過つ 3284) I think あやま.ち is justified.
And よ. る are two distinct readings, both of them correct.</upd_detl>
