<upd_detl>I was going to add し【私】, but I'm not sure what the best way to organize everything would be. If it goes in this entry, we end up with each sense having different restrictions, which is ugly. If we give it a new entry, do we move わたくし sense 2 (and maybe sense 3 as well) there? Daijr/s both give わたくし as a definition for し. Though daijs compares わたくし with 公(おおやけ) and し with 公(こう), which we have with different PoS; so if the PoS are different for わたくし and し, I suppose it would just get its own entry (which makes things easy).</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>My first thought was "no way" as I was taught that わたし and わたくし were essentially the same. But I agree that the politeness, and slightly feminine nuance, not to mention the later senses, make it an uncomfortable combination. I've proposed a split.

Aside: I first heard わたくし spoken in 1982 when we took my elder daughter (then 10) to a Girls Scouts meeting in Nagano-ken. They had a formal "promise" recital which included use of わたくし. I've also heard it used by males in formal speeches.</upd_detl>
