<upd_detl>Looks like it should be removed from here but I'm not actually sure what the correct translation for this is.
Wikipedia says it can refer to 本結び (square/reef knot) but that it's also a separate type of knot.
What that knot is called in English, I don't know.
"male style of knot" doesn't look right.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Yes, "male style" is hopeless. With several refs supporting granny knot I think it should 
stay. I think it's a general term for square knots, including reef and granny.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>i think there should be a distinction drawn between 男結び and 女結び (and some coordination of glosses), for which we also have 'granny knot'.  it appears as if 女結び is exactly the same thing except it starts with left instead of the right</upd_detl>
