<upd_detl>My first reaction was that it can go. Then I thought about whether I would have come up with that sentence, since I didn't really know the verb to use. It's not exactly a common sense of 置く. It may be better as an example, but it may also be a useful thing for people to find when they look up 下宿 or 下宿人.
Then I saw that GG5 has it as an example of the 下宿人 subentry of the 下宿 entry.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I don't mind keeping it in. The situation is a little complicated. It's easy to say "it's better as an example sentence" and that 
might be true in a paper dictionary, but honestly I don't think we're helping anybody by sticking it inside the tatoeba collection.</upd_detl>
