<upd_detl>No idea why it's not in the KM n-grams. It's very odd - そうした中 gets over 7k, but none with a following kana, whereas in the Google n-grams the most common following patterns start with kana, with で at the front. I hope it wasn't a processing glitch.
Anyway, I can find 100s of live examples in WWW passages, and AFAICT "meanwhile" fits them, so I think it can stay.</upd_detl>
