the first daijs example is from 1895 e.g. well into Meiji

<upd_detl>We have a lot of other entries tagged [arch] that have examples from the Meiji era.
I don't think this word is ever used nowadays except in the form 如才ない. I'd argue that makes it [arch].</upd_detl>

discussed this on the mailing list in 2012, Jim 
suggested that:
"if the term was really only used in the Edo period or 
earlier,
it should be marked "arch".
- if the term was used up to, say. early Showa, but is 
no longer
current, it should be marked "obs". (ウンシャン from 
"unschön"
is an example - it was a Meiji-to-early-Showa term)"
Maybe this should be discussed again on the mailing
