non-native speakers... in the lang-8 example (written by 
somebody learning Japanese), "案内師" is even marked as 
incorrect by a native speaker. too few hits to be wortwhile to 
add even as an ik, in my opinion.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>41 Google hits cf 450k for 通訳案内士. I see 案内師 is getting some use generally, although about 1% of the usage level of 案内士. I think I'd like to see this more widely used before giving it  a place.</upd_detl>

The cited site of the Chamber of Commerce in Sapporo seems pretty authoritative to me - especially in view of the accompanying photo that shows that more than 50% of the people who were certified on that occasion were women. ;-)
On one occasion i met a teacher of Japanese who (emphatically) told me that 看護師 was the wrong term when denoting a certain female acquaintance and that i should use 看護婦 (i didn't say anything at that time, although i knew that the professional nurses association in Japan thinks otherwise). So i think with 案内師 we are probably witnessing language change in action, toward a more gender neutral expression (and i imagine especially educated bi-/multi-lingual foreigners might well be contributing to that trend). In any case, maybe it is time to create another marker, along the lines of "obsolete", to indicate "too new/rare to know whether it will become established". :-)

<upd_detl>Comments noted. It could be quite ephemeral, never really catch on, etc. Since it's an alterntive kanji form, I guess we can bend and add it, but I'll mark it as "iK" which means it's "irregular kanji". If it get more common over the years, that tag could be dropped.
We have the "obsc" tag (obscure), but that applies to the whole entry; not just individual surface forms or readings.</upd_detl>
