<upd_refs>> all japanese dictionaries have this defined as 水蝋蝋
I'm aware of that, but that didn't make sense in the sentence where I came across the word (which I quoted above), and I was able to find other references that suggested a meaning that did make more sense in that context.
.
> though wouldn't it more accurately be defined as the "runner" of the door than its "threshold"?
Yes, it could be that the references I found on the Web were imprecise in indicating it's the threshhold. Or maybe I misunderstood what those two references were saying. Indeed, "runner of a sliding door" does make sense in the original context where I read the word, and the 走り part of the word is highly suggestive that that's what a 戸走り is.</upd_refs>

<upd_detl>From the text and pictures on the following webpages (parts 1 and 2 of a blog article on 戸走り) it appears to me that the 戸走り can be a relatively substantial, thick piece of lumber that perhaps functions as both threshold and runner. I guess "runner (of a sliding door)" works fine, though.

The text says, in part,
戸走り・・・。ってご存知ですか?
