I was also surprised, although in this paper I think it probably isn't
directional.

From my own papers, I should of course have added Ogura and Bond (1999):

 日本語副詞の日英対照分析とそれに基づく機械翻訳
 Analysis of Japanese Adverbs Contrasted with English and Machine
Translation Based on the Analysis

Another not very parallel example.
