Actually, I've just spend the last hour catching up on what this project
set out to do (instead of preparing for Korean class as I should be
doing). :)
It seems that the this project may bear fruit after all. Initially this
project was a joined effort between the two Dutch-language universities
with a Japanese department until 2004. The Dutch Universiteit Leiden and
the Belgian Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. The latter are now (since
late 2006 I think) following the model of WaDoku and are using a wiki
structure to organise the dictionary with the aid of students.

In fact, Reading Tutor already uses this as a source:
http://language.tiu.ac.jp/
And to my surprise the Belgian academic who is heading the WaRan
dictionary is coming to Leiden on the 30th as there seems to a
conference on "Open Source principes en methodes in Academia" here.
(Which I also did not know, yet is very relevant to my studies.. I feel
quite naive, uninformed and slightly frustrated at this point!)
I will try to find out some more about the licence and formats used by
WaRan. I believe that this may be an excellent addition for JMdict, and
a lot better than the few Dutch glosses present now. :)
Kind regards,
