New Entry or Amendment Submission Form (by way of introduction)

Hello,

(starting with a short introduction)

I am a long-time user of the online JDIC (and the associated German dictionary since that has become available). After living a short time in Japan (to get some education in the basics of the language but where i made little progress since my work and social life involved using English), i moved to Okinawa, where i have been living on different islands for the recent 6 years and making do as self-employed jack-of-all-trades. Having know Jim (via e-mail) for a number of years, and having on occasion sent in submissions and suggestions, i have recently joined the mailing list, since i would like to contribute to the imrpovement of the online dictionaries in a more systematic manner. That means basically that, rather than sending casual messages to Jim, as i used to do, i would like to make submissions directly through the web interface, while i am using the dictionary, but i have a few questions and suggestions in that regards.

But here is what this message is really about: the New Entry or Amendment Submission Form. Some comments:

1) It would be nice to have a field for an ID that regular contributors (approved by Jim) could use - this would eliminate the need for entering an email address (maybe some people can do this with one key click; my somewhat old software does not have such a provision)

2) Usually there are several fields of the form that i would have to leave blank, be it that i don't know which dictionary an entry should really be in or that i am not familiar with the required part of speech designation, etc.

Here is what i in most cases have and would like to send in:
  * the kanji
  * at least one reading
  * some meanings in English or German (not necessarily exhaustive)
  * an example of how the term is being used

An example:

A translation i am working on, something written by 志村ふくみ, whom JDIC knows as (h), ;-) includes the expressions 見えざるものの領域 and 見えるものの領域. Neither 見えざる nor ざる show up in JDIC.

So i plugged 見えざる into Eijoro and got enough sample sentences to understand its meaning. Suspecting that ざる could be either a verb on its own or a suffix, in which either case it might also be used in conjunction with other verbs besides 見える, i plugged ざる on its own into Eijiro and got an impressive number of usage samples that clearly show that a simple word to word correspondence entry would not be appropriate - but i would like to see both 見えざる and ざる in JDIC. What to do? The form is not suitable in cases like this, and usually i am in the midst of work and don't have the time to write up a story, like i just did for this list...

3) (really a corollary of 2) Considering the above, i need in all but a few cases the help of an editor (person) to get my submissions ready for inclusion in the published dictionary; so the immediate inclusion of my submissions - even with the comment that they are unverified - does not make me feel comfortable...

That's all for the moment. Thanks for your indulgence...

Regards: Hendrik
