| Comments: | Wasn't sure what to make of this and sort of forgot. I don't see the mentioned clay slab meaning for "たたら", but the tatara furnace was built out of clay so that's maybe where that's from? It seems たたら originally only referred to the furnace, but later came to be used for the building housing said furnace. |

Google translate is all medical terms. The glosses on びまん seem to not be a good match. We usually gloss 性 entries as [n], but for another [adj-f][med] example see: 外傷性 traumatic Scroll down here and you'll see 4 pages of medical terms https://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=びまん also [adj-no], but if I recall we don't mark [adj-f] as [adj-no]. まん性に appears to just mean "diffusely" in a medical context, not sure if we need a second [n] sense for that. びまん性に 1745 44.0% びまん性の 2223 56.0% びまん性が 0 0.0% びまん性を 0 0.0% びまん性な 0 0.0% |

|
| Comments: | I got this off a website searching for 女性型脱毛症. Somewhat coincidentally chatgpt indicated that this term tends to be what women get diagnosed with in place of AGA. | Refs: | https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/男性型脱毛症 男性型脱毛症(だんせいがただつもうしょう、英: Pattern hair loss、AGA) 男性型脱毛症(MPHL) (wikipedia further (re)defines 男性型脱毛症 as *male* pattern baldness) 女性型脱毛症(FPHL) (wikipedia does not expand these acronyms either) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattern_hair_loss Pattern hair loss (also known as androgenetic alopecia (AGA)[1]) is a hair loss condition that primarily affects the top and front of the scalp.[2][3] In male-pattern hair loss (MPHL) 男性型脱毛症 35042 97.4% 女性型脱毛症 951 2.6% All these terms seem pretty related: 薄毛治療(AGA/MPHL,FAGA/FPHL)中の妊活注意点 https://kitou.clinic/pregnancy-activities-2/ I think chatgpt is probably correct here: In Japanese usage, the acronym AGA (エージーエー) almost always refers to 男性型脱毛症 (dansei-gata datsumōshō, “male-pattern hair loss”), even though the literal medical term androgenetic alopecia is gender-neutral. A few points about how it’s perceived in Japan: Default assumption = men. In ads, clinics, and popular media, AGA is overwhelmingly tied to male patients. The word has become almost synonymous with “male-pattern baldness” in Japanese marketing. Women’s hair loss is labeled differently. Clinics usually market it under terms like FAGA (女性男性型脱毛症) or simply 女性の薄毛, to avoid confusion with the male-focused branding of AGA. |

| Comments: | Saw on a 発毛-company advertisement on the train. "AGAなら[company/product name]..." No other terminology, imagery, or kanji of any kind indicating hair loss (other than a small 発毛 on the bottom of the ad), so AGA must be pretty well understood. "AGA" listed in Wikipedia under 男性型脱毛症. Note the *kanji* in 男性型脱毛症 is specifically male (男性), while the opening synonyms give "pattern baldness" and "AGA" without "Male". It appears that "clinically" AGA is gender neutral (though it predominantly affects men), but perhaps in practice implies "male". Chatgpt noticed something else interesting: 男性型脱毛症 35042 女性型脱毛症 951 女性の薄毛 47634 男性の薄毛 2949 <-- look how rare this is by comparison For men's hair loss, it's just 男性型脱毛症, for women it's 女性の薄毛 (but then, women tend to lose hair for other reasons I suppose). |

| Comments: | This is definitely a term, figured I'd add for completeness. Apparently 男性型脱毛症 has been clinically defined in a way that 女性男性型脱毛症 doesn't mean "Male or female pattern hairloss", but "female [version of] male pattern hairloss". Which I find super-weird. 女性型脱毛症 of course also exists. 女性男性型脱毛症 35 3.5% <-- this might actually be "technically" correct, and need an entry.... 女性型脱毛症 951 96.5% https://www.agaskin-woman.jp/introduction/qa/qa3_03.php FAGAとは、「Female(女性の)AGA」(女性男性型脱毛症)のことです。AGA(男性型脱毛症)は男性に起こる進行性の脱毛症のことを示すのに対し、FAGAは文字通り、女性に起こる脱毛・薄毛のことを示します。 Wikipedia, at least, does not give 女性男性型脱毛症. |
