Thanks. An error on my part in 2010. Yes, all senses should have POS tags as they are independent.

  Comments:
This is one of only two entries that have sense(s) with no part of speech tag. Although there doesn't appear to be any rule that a sense must have a part of speech, nor schema
restriction, and in this case we could infer the POS, it's seems that there is a complementary rule regarding nouns that they should not be infered from previous entries and must
be listed.

The Japanese Idol Known For Hating Her Fans?? | Shimazaki Haruka (Paruru)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O-SDxk58HE
(2:10 ): "塩対応 directly translates as 'salty response', you can think along the lines of a 'cold or unfriendly' response too, something you would never usually associate with mainstream idols. That's because what is usually expected is 神対応, or 'God-level care and responsiveness'".

https://mainichi.jp/articles/20250203/k00/00m/010/169000c
Of a prime minister's comments(quoted speech): 「

=============
A *whole* bunch of examples with 塩対応, maybe playing a bit fast-and-lose with the nuances though:
   「cold response」「distant」「standoffish」「aloof」「icy」「cold shoulder」
https://nativecamp.net/blog/20231101-cold_response
Please don’t be distant. (questionable translation, but I get the idea)

Chatgpt:
👉 In practice, it describes a cold, curt, unenthusiastic, or unkind way of dealing with someone—the opposite of warm hospitality or friendliness.
Idol/fandom culture:

“At yesterday’s handshake event, 〇〇 gave me a salty response…”

Customer service / workplace:
“That clerk’s attitude was way too cold!”

Everyday interactions:
When someone replies briefly and disinterestedly in LINE or in person, you might say they’re giving you a 塩対応.

So it’s a pop slang term, most natural in casual conversations, online discussions, or when talking about idols, service interactions, or dating/relationships.

Do you want me to also give you the nuance difference between 塩対応 and English "salty" (since they’re not quite the same)?
  Comments:
If someone has the latest sankoku, this is apparently now listed.

Mainichi has a whole article on it now, says it was popularized by the AKB48 idol Paruru in particular: アイドルの対応ぶりに由来国語辞典も徐々に採録
新語として定着進む「塩対応」
https://salon.mainichi-kotoba.jp/archives/202448

The article was a reaction to the use of 塩対応 to describe a prime minister's comments: 「ゼロ回答とは言わないが、塩対応だ」. You can see the direct link to brevity ("not zero, but 塩対応"). The idol Paruru giving only a 1 minute speech, instead of the common 4 minute speech, was also 塩対応.

I think the lit "salty response" has a different nuance in English. "giving the cold shoulder" probably works only in human-relationship contexts.

Google "塩対応して" or "塩対応して" site:x.com for [vs]. Too new for the ngram database.

"cold reception" and "chilly reception" might feel redundant, but I think "cold" is much harsher, and it really just depends on context in which 塩対応 appears. Few readers will intuit "chilly reception" from "cold reception" (I didn't, it was an LLM suggestion).

Production Control/Logistics term

I did stumble upon a research paper which uses this term to describe the information management of waste disposal (linked below) but this term is broadly used to describe management of stock numbers in factories/warehouses.

OK. Let's leave it there.
I asked ChatGPT: What does the Japanese term ドン勝 mean?
Its reply (obviously hallucinating):

The Japanese term ドン勝 (どんかつ, donkatsu) is gamer slang that originated with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) in Japan. It’s actually a mistranslation that stuck.

How it came about:

In PUBG, when you win a match, the English message says “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.”

In early Japanese translations, players jokingly rendered this as 「勝った! — mixing “勝つ (to win)” with とんかつ (tonkatsu, pork cutlet).

Over time, ドン勝 (donkatsu) became shorthand among Japanese gamers for “winning a match” or “getting first place” — even though it literally sounds like “pork cutlet.”

Nuance:

It has no connection to actual food, though it plays on the sound of tonkatsu.

Used mostly in battle-royale or survival-type games, especially PUBG.

Saying “ドン勝した” means “I got the win!”

  Comments:
If we don't want to overcomplicate the glosses, I at least like your note as it give some context for why you might use this term in Japanese. "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" is an appropriate gloss in e-sports/video-game contexts where this is likely to appear. At least appearing in the note is something.

It also explains some of the nuance. So when you see this Redmi Note smartphone ad:

目指せドン勝。ゲームにも強いシャオミの「Redmi Note 10」シリーズは199ドルから
https://www.gizmodo.jp/2021/03/xiaomi-redmi-note-10.html

you know they are referencing the ability to play PUBG mobile on that hardware. For comparison, the article shows the English version: "Redmi Note 10 Series: Challenge for Chicken Dinner"(similarly evoking PUBG, without naming it explicitly). These only make sense if their audience knows about the gamn. (As I noted, it is/was immensely popular. Wikipedia cites 1.3 *billion* player accounts).

Glossing without any allusion to the game feels incomplete. A news search for ドン勝 will show how strong the link is.

"coming (in) first" looks like it might a regional preference...
