| Comments: | I don't like calling it "first move" because that's not how Go players refer to it in either Japanese or English, and it's potentially misleading. "First move" might be interpreted as the very first move of the game, which is not what "sente" typically refers to in Go. That meaning is already captured by the general definition [1]. In Go, "sente" usually refers to a move or sequence where the player takes the initiative and compels the opponent to respond. Once the sequence ends (which may involve more than just one move), the player who initiated it retains control of the flow of the game—they are free to choose where to play next, as they are not under pressure to respond. This contrasts with "gote", which refers to a move that the opponent can ignore, leaving the initiator in a reactive position. Also for uniformity reasons the go meaning should be in it's own definition to make use of the tag |

| Comments: | Was gonna say I'm not sure it's better, since the な doesn't belong to the 形容動詞 the same way い belongs to a 形容詞, but that doesn't help for words or senses that are [adj-na] only (like 結構 sense 1,2 and 3). It's just a bit less consistent with the "-masu" stem we have for verbs than "-ku" form would be. Works though The xref would need to be to でない, not ではない Also, a more general thing, shouldn't [aux-adj] be the first PoS for sense 5 and 6? |
|
| 10. | A* 2025-06-28 04:06:25 Sean McBroom <...address hidden...> | |

| Comments: | Isn't the point of a restriction to indicate that the sense in question is only used with one of the given orthographies? I don't know whether or not both orthographies are valid for sense 1, but sense 2 is only ever written かるた会. The katakana form of カルタ is not used in competitive karuta at all (to say nothing of the full kanji spelling!) |

I’m concluding (from the specificity of the name) that it refers *specifically* to Chum salmon. |

| Comments: | I'm just worried it's not clear what the difference is between 出札 and 当たり札 from the glosses. The important difference is that every time a poem is read (up to 99 times per game) there is a 出札, but there is only an 当たり札 if the card that is read is present on the field (up to 49 times per game). Perhaps with this information you can create a better concise explanation than I was able to come up with. Also, I feel like 出札 refers to any and all of the poem, the yomifuda and the torifuda, whereas 当たり札 only refers to the torifuda in question - but I guess that's a very minor detail |
|
| 4. | A 2025-07-10 06:24:47 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
| Comments: | That explanation seems a bit opaque. Probably best just to have a brief gloss and indicate the field. 出札 is relatively common as it's also read しゅっさつ (issuing tickets). |

| Comments: | We have the other two Street Fighter moves. If you search jmnedict entries with the [fict]/[obj] tags, we do include many in-universe terms from fiction. The bar for notability for that dictionary is pretty low, and for me inclusion in daijs+ and over a thousand n-grams is ample. (We normally would push this to the names dictionary, but the other two are in the main one, and since [spec1] entries get copied over anyway, the distinction isn't that meaningful.) |
