| 24. | A* 2025-05-19 16:04:06 Sombrero1 | |
| Refs: | Meikyo3 (2024), GendaiShinkoku7 (2024), Wisdom3 (2023) have just ロマン, no kanji form and no entry for ろうまん/浪漫 itself DailyConcise8 (2019), Sankoku8 (2024), Shinmeikai8 (2022) have 浪漫・ロマン as an entry Sankoku also has ローマン marked [古風] and refs to ロマン |
| Comments: | Apart from this info I have nothing further to substantiate [rk]. I think it's just "arguably [rk]", not "maybe arguably [rk]", but I get that that doesn't really change the fact that it's uncertain I personally believe that, in this merged form, it's better marked in some way (a note might be ugly though), than left unmarked |
| 23. | A* 2025-05-19 13:42:34 | |
| Comments: | I think using [rk] because "maybe it's arguably rare" is a bad way of doing it. I think it should be reserved for more obvious cases. |
| 22. | A* 2025-05-19 08:41:51 Sombrero1 | |
| Refs: | Google N-gram Corpus Counts ╭─ーーーー─┬───────────┬───────╮ │ 浪漫 │ 749.772 │ 31.2% │ │ 浪曼 │ 928 │ 0.0% │ │ ロマン │ 1.561.436 │ 65.0% │ │ ローマン │ 90.735 │ 3.8% │ │ ろうまん │ 1.089 │ 0.0% │ ╰─ーーーー─┴───────────┴───────╯ I think the point is that since this is a foreign word with ateji surface forms, these forms can have their kana form spelled in hiragana and katakana. I.e. different manifestations of the same word, and the [rk] tag serves to inform the user that this word, despite having kanji forms, has its reading rarely spelled in hiragana. This wouldn't be necessary if the katakana forms were [nokanji]. BUT Furigana.info for 浪漫 (keep in mind that the sample size for this result is just 20): 読み方 割合 ろうまん 37.5% ロマン 25.0% ローマン 18.8% ローマンス 12.5% ろまん 6.3% Anon >But you can't say it's rare based on the ngrams considering you can't measure how common it is as a reading. And I do believe that that's a fair point to be made |
| Comments: | I think to solve this it would be needed to decide whether [rk] is applied pertaining to the % of reading usage for a given surface form (which is indeed a bit difficult to confirm), or if it's applied pertaining to the % of usage among the kana forms only (and then to infer from there to the first criterion). This case is special because the readings are pronounced the same, but written in different alphabets. However, since this word is written in kana 2/3 of the time (in 2007) I believe it's reasonable to tag ろうまん [rk] based on the second criterion, and from that infer that it is also rarely used as a reading. The sample size of furigana.info doesn't seem to be significant enough to prove the opposite. |
| 21. | A* 2025-05-19 00:21:35 | |
| Comments: | If it's not used as a surface form to begin with but a reading for the kanji, if it's the exact same pronunciation as the non-rk tagged ローマン, what is the point of marking ろうまん as rk? I think it's only confusing. |

| Comments: | I agree that the net-sl tag makes that clear. But I'm not sure why you think this entry might not be necessary? If you need an example of it being used, look at the chat of this stream: https://youtu.be/99Aq3nML2VI?t=5963 (timestamp is included). Note that most messages use the abbreviation くしゃたす, which I also want to add but of course that wouldn't make any sense without adding くしゃみ助かる itself before. On another note, I think the "bless you" is not accurate. I know that https://dic.pixiv.net/a/くしゃみ助かる states that but I think the author of that just looked at when the words are used and not that much at what meaning they convey. But don't take my word for it, look at this 「この言葉は英語で言うところの Bless you. にあたるでしょう。 (冗談です。強いて言えば、Thank you for sneezing. といったところでしょうか)」 (Source: https://diary-039.com/entry/2024/06/19/sn_tskr). Also, I think just adding "Bless you" makes it seem like a word used in standard conversation but as far as I know it's only really used in the context of streaming. I think it would make more sense to add the second meaning I originally had in mind "don't worry about sneezing (used when a streamer accidentally left his microphone unmuted while sneezing)" instead. Or maybe something a bit more concise like "don't worry about sneezing (when a streamer accidentally sneezes with unmuted mic)". Feel free to suggest a different version of course |

Also, after thinking about the meaning of 助かる in slang in general more I believe the "don't worry about sneezing" really is a very accurate secondary meaning. I've already provided some references for that earlier but if you need more, let me know |
