| Comments: | The xref is quite uncommon, and probably unhelpful to point at without significant nuance explanation. (comments at the xref, also edited) I feel like pushback will come on removing "lean figure". My argument is that "slim" is almost always the right J-E gloss. (or "weight loss" if the text is more elaborately massaged). Sure, you won't get this entry if you search "lean", but you won't get it if you search "thin" either. The sankoku definition are: 1. やせたからだ 2. 「ふとったからだを」やせたからだにすること Either way, you have to have weight and then lose it. For "lean" a person can always be lean. For "slim" I grant that it's ambiguous, (I think someone can always be slim if they've been healthy all their lives), but there is a strong exercise/weight loss/health connotation to "slim" which seems to match this term. Having "lean" on a gloss here, to me, makes it appear less-specific than it actually is. Google image search for "痩身" kind of says everything, I think. |

What does 面子揃う mean? https://hinative.com/questions/2765244 All the members have arrived. It is a term used in mahjong, but can also be used in daily life. It means that all the necessary members have gathered. |
|
| Comments: | First ref says kids were using this 15 years ago already. x.com shows copious examples in social media. You can search for them too, I've linked to some pretty clear photos. For メンツが揃った in particular, past-tense, I get very strong: "the gang's all here" vibes. The old crew's got together. An expression used in group photos. I get the idea that perhaps even if some members see each other, it's been some time since the *whole* group was in the same place at the same time. For what it's worth, sankoku marks the entirety of メンツ[4] as 俗[col]. I think we should have a friendly, colloquial gloss for people uniting. I like "the gang's all here". I would use that personally. I'm sure I've used "it's been a while since the whole crew got together", or something to that effect. Flipping through social media posts, there are other uses where something using "lineup" really seems more applicable. Maybe someone here has some ideas. Arguably [uk]. Surprisingly close to 50/50. |
