| Comments: | Be that as it may, I don't see why a gloss specific to a fictional work is needed. The kokugos give examples of elves in teutonic, british and nordic mythology. Surely they all imagined them differently, in that sense they'd also need to be seperate wouldn't they? I think elves are a generally understood and known mythological creature and there's no need to be so specific about it here. I imagine most people, if not everyone would understand this word if it were mentioned in the specific context of Tolkien's works. |

| Comments: | * Change gloss to indicate nuance – the 国語辞書 all say ちょ っと、なんとなく、どことなく – this is a milder form of 粋 * add alt sense “conceited”, with note on usage * link to underlying words * put 小粋 kanji first – it’s the only one given in GG5 (though 研究社中 gives only 小意気), and is appropriate for the more common “stylish” usage. It’s clear what the appropriate kanji per usage are (小粋 for 粋 and 小意気 for 生意気), but dicts don’t mention this, and appear mixed in usage. Cross-references should make it clear to users w/o needing a separate note. |
