I don't have experience with these sites, however, "club" in English can refer to a group of members, paid or unpaid (e.g. country club, health club(gym), book club). So I think it's worth noting the clubs are a private paid service.

Maybe simplify "matchmaking" to "dating" since it could range from a rent-a-girlfriend-style service to a genuine courting service.

I specifically did not use wikipedia as a reference because it had no useful information. some friendly editor had removed it all some years ago. see an old version, if you must, for the useful bits:
https://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=交際クラブ&oldid=68792842

the "datling club" reference in contrast has a wealth of information.

I think it is of some importance to mention that:
- it costs for men but is free for women
- men essentially control who they choose to meet, the women are just "waiting" to be selected
- the demographics are lopsided: 82% of meale members are upper managers or doctors
- the fees for men are high (30-300 th. yen to join, 30-110 th. yen for a single date)
- men are expected to pay "transportation fees" and "pocket money" to the woman upon the date
- the men tend to be older or at least not young, while the women certainly are fairly young (many still students)
- [reading between the lines,] it may be socially undesirable for a woman to have membership in these clubs due to the above factors

but most of all, it is important to mention _at least one_ of these things to let the reader know that there is more to these clubs than the name alone reveals, that he may do his own research

Buzzword: shikaku (English language explanation)
https://web-japan.org/trends/buzz/bz0508.html

The term, meaning "assassin," may have ominous connotations, but it quickly became one of the most popular election keywords in the wake of the dissolution of the House of Representatives in the summer of 2005. The resulting election pitted Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro against rebel lawmakers of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party who voted against a package of bills to privatize Japan's postal services, which the prime minister has been pushing, in the lower house. Koizumi not only has denied party endorsement to those of the anti-postal privatization camp but took steps to drive them out of power.

Chatgpt is crazy by the way: I asked it:
does japanese have a colloquial term to describe a candidate fielded by a political party to oust an incumbent of the same party?
ChatGPT said:
Yes, Japanese has a colloquial term for such a situation: "刺客" (shikaku), which literally means "assassin." This term is used metaphorically in politics to describe a candidate fielded by a political party to challenge and replace an incumbent within the same party.
The term gained popularity in the 2005 Japanese general election, when then-Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent "shikaku" candidates...

Did too much reading for the 刺客候補 entry. Refs explain the change.

Just as an observation on modern usage, on my search for a pronunciation of 刺客候補 (didn't find one), I stumbled on a broadcast on pro-Trump (親トランプ) and anti-Trump(反トランプ) candidates squaring off, along with a big pic of Trump's face with 刺客 written beside it. The race was Liz Cheney(the "traditional" Republican, now a rebel) vs Trump-backed Harriet Hageman. It was a pretty big deal in U.S. news at the time.

The device used in this broadcast to present graphics is something to be hold. Trump's face + 刺客 unfolds 5 seconds in

https://youtu.be/5kH1aC6rQ5Q?t=10

I'd note that the term "assassin" would make no sense for a candidate from an opposing party. That's just an ordinary election. The party is trying to "take out" someone who isn't toeing the line.

Encountered the same sense that was removed 4 years back.

While researching, found this resource. It aligns translations for a particular family of video games scripts. Lots of examples, "hold back"(7 examples), "holding back" (12), "take it easy"/"go easy"/"went easy on us" (10 examples).
https://trailsinthedatabase.com/game-scripts?game_id=0&p=1&q=手を抜

Common in sports. Google "手を抜く" or "手を抜かない" and "スポーツ". Previous glosses don't function well in this context. ("Give it your all" = 手を抜かない is particularly apt. for sports, I think).

My encounter: 契約生きている以上、お前が相手でも手を抜かないのよ
"As long as my contract exists, I won't hold back, not even against you."

This sense seems completely consistent with the literal kokugo definition[sankoku]:
しなければならないことを(きちんと)やらない.

sankoku says adj-na, but looks like adj-no that can be used adverbially with に. I'm certain I've discussed another term like this recently.

In fact, if you look at eijiro, there's two pages of collocations with に meaning "separately", and one explicit entry 形容詞 with の, and zero examples with な。

For jmdict's purposes, I'd say the most useful move would be to strip [adj-na] from this entry, and then created a dedicated entry for 別個に = "separately".

Request to reconsider xref of 眼鏡にかなう

I get the impression that [2] barely exists in modern Japanese outside of "眼鏡にかなう". I should have said that explicitly. You can see, for example, the relative non-existence even of 眼鏡違い. It is also the *third* sense in sankoku, after a sense we don't even have: 望遠鏡・潜望鏡 (telescope/periscope, should we add this?).

In cases where a term really exists only within some idiomatic expression, we regularly link the expression. This provides clarity to the nuance of the term (rather than the expansive list of glosses which suggest a flexibility that this term may not really have), and prevents people from trying to do an A+B translation of an idiom, leading to a shoddy translation/understanding.

眼鏡 has enough collocations in jmdict that you might not readily find 眼鏡にかなう even though they share a prefix. Not all jmdict users are savvy enough to go hunting for longer expressions, so I really think the xref is beneficial here.

Many more refs added at the xref with updated gloss. 刺客 seems used far more often alone than in this construction, so I think the xref is in the right direction.

Here because I encountered 刺客 in the wild, pronounced しかく. Seems doubtful that 刺客候補 gets a special pronunciation preference.

sankoku has two entries for 刺客 oddly enough, and しかく points to しきゃく, which is the main entry. But furigana.info *never* gives しきゃく. Maybe sankoku is just wrong this time.

There's a reason for the xref. 刺客 literally means "assassin", it has been used metaphorically in Japanese. We have not included a [lit] gloss on this entry, so that is not clear. If someone searches for 刺客戦術, they will not find the underlying entry without a reference. (Some resources are more liberal than others about displaying back-refs).

刺客戦術 is derived from 刺客, not the other way around. I'm fine with a unidirectional gloss, but I think it should be in the other direction.

https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/as・ser・tive
1 断言的な,言い張る,独断的な.

Native Japanese of 断言的な言い方:
https://www.city.sukumo.kochi.jp/fs/5/1/5/_/01_h2501.pdf
市長、今、話したように、助成をしないという断言的な言い方ではなしに、今後の推移を見て、これをどうしていくのか考えていただきた
いと思いますが、その点についてはどうでしょうか。
Mayor, as I just said, I would like you to look at future developments and consider what to do about this, rather than categorically saying that you will not provide subsidies. What are your thoughts on this?
  Comments:
[rare] is my main assertion here. The rest I could take or leave.

Book results for "断言的" start with 哲学, so [2] is legitimate. But you'll also see business discussion about 断言的な言い方 and similar. "Speaking in a way that doesn't allow consideration of other's opinions." "This is how it is"

断言的な書き方	77
断言的な言い方	73
"断言的な言い方" some web results, book results (not a whole lot)
"定言的な言い方" zero google results, 1 book result

For discussing philosophy [2], you might prefer the xref. If you want to use it as and adjective/adverbial form of 断言, you should *not* use the xref. That's more or less my thought on the split.

There's a pretty good article in the refs, I thought some might find it interesting, and maybe helpful for this entry. It opens with:

"In Japanese, do ド means "super," or "mega," or "hyper, " or "ultra," or "very." It's an intensifying prefix often used exaggeratedly."

We have none of these glosses. If this is colloquial/slang, then maybe the current glosses should not just be added to, but replaced. It seems telling that none of our xrefs use any of our glosses.

ド嬉しい = "Super happy", no?

We've lead with ど over ド, but in keeping with trendy slang, all of the modern adult/"perverse"/vulgar xrefs strongly prefer ド.

I just added ド変態. You could somewhat argue that it is A+B, but I didn't find that clear with this entry in its current form.

Strong authentication is a notion with several definitions.

(This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it)

Parallel-ish translation(different versions of a related manual):
English:
https://docs.oracle.com/en/database/oracle/oracle-database/19/dbseg/introduction-to-strong-authentication.html
Japanese
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/G11854_01/dbseg/introduction-to-strong-authentication.html

A definition, but I don't think a definitive definition. Published in 2005

厳密認証
 公開鍵暗号システムを使用した署名である認証方式です。
  Comments:
This is some nonspecific technical jargon used by principally by Oracle, Fujitsu, and maybe some other software packages way back.

厳密認証 appears in ~5 books from ~1998 to ~2005.

厳密認証 is not well defined in Japanese, and "strong authentication" is not well defined in English, and would probably be translated some other way today(see reverso). While Oracle specifically used this translation in their Japanese localization, glossing as "strong authentication" provides no guidance as to the meaning of the term, while masking more appropriate translations of "strong authentication".

(英語: Prince Charming)は、おとぎ話におけるストックキャラクターのひとつ。プリンスであり、いわゆる「囚われの姫君(Damsel in distress)」を窮地から救い出す。「白馬の王子」「魅惑の王子」と訳されることもある。

実用日本語表現辞典
https://www.weblio.jp/content/白馬の王子様
白馬の王子様は、ヒロインが苦境に立たされている状況に颯爽と現れ、救出し、后として迎え、満ち足りた生活環境を成就させる。

I'll have to revisit your thoughts whether this is useful later, but I had a "double-check" chat with chatgpt if you're curious:
https://chatgpt.com/share/679bac2d-6ee0-8008-b86c-05141f572667
  Comments:
The weblio ref specifically says "rescues a damsel in distress *and takes her as his queen*." I think "knight" here is insufficient. Image search, book search, wikipedia, various refs all point to a fairy tale *prince*.

I encountered only "白馬", but in a context where I'm pretty sure this nuance was meant to be invoked (it was unfortunately dropped in translation). Boy is talking to a love interest, says "One day, when I'm the kind of strong, smart, rich man who's worthy of you, I'll take you away on a white horse." (白馬に乗って君をさらいに来るよ)
) That "white horse" bit doesn't really evoke anything in English, but I imagine it does in Japanese.

"knight" was added based on 新和英中辞典 in 2013, and google will turn up plenty of people who suggest the parallel, but I think this entry is more useful (and accurate) without it.

The phrase "dark doldrums" is being transliterated in Japanese as ダーク・ドルドラムズ, and since that's pretty meaningless (ドルドラムズ seems not to be a recognised 外来語 and ドルドラム is quite rare), the compound 無光無風 is being used to explain what it means.
It might be better to have an entry for ダーク・ドルドラムズ, but I m not sure either is needed or useful.

  Comments:
The JEs only have the "master of ceremonies" meaning for this. Daijisen has 4 others: member of Congress, Marine Corps, machining center, and marginal cost. No sign of TV presenter.
If you are going to persist with the suggested edit, you MUST provide a case with examples or references.

I've encountered 'aerobreaking' many times in english, but not 'aerobreak' I think.. the wikipedia page (jp) mentions several other terms for the same thing. this is the one I encountered though.

Word Meaning
In Japanese, do ド means "super," or "mega," or "hyper, " or "ultra," or "very." It's an intensifying prefix often used exaggeratedly.

ド変態	13704	82.2%
どへんたい	128	0.8%
ドへんたい	20	0.1%
ど変態	2821	16.9%
  Comments:
You could argue that this is A+B, but I think this is one of the more common collocations. We have ドM, ドS.

Seems like these terms have already been discussed somewhat.

Note also this observation relevant to ド変態:

"For certain words, a translation with an expletive in place of do ド often makes sense, even thought do ド isn't an expletive. For example:"
ド変態: Fucking pervert.
ドS Damn sadist.
ドM Damn masochist.

The case I encountered this, "fucking" would have been a bit much for the audience, I think. The translator just used a bare "pervert".
