I was confused by the glosses so I've had a go at reorganizing the entry.

all of my refs redirect to ほんとうに instead of 実に/じつに
まことに is a bit formal (sankoku: "「本当に」の改まった言い方。") and often used by businesses or equivalent (as seen in example sentences of kokugos and gg5)
i've also adjusted the glosses to reflect this more
i don't think しんに should be here as the nuance is quite different
真に is pretty much always read as しんに
there's also a separate 実に/まことに entry but it seems cleaner to have all the kanji forms here

Paddy field	UK / Asia / Australia	The technically correct term for flooded rice cultivation.
Rice paddy	North America / Informal	Common in casual speech; emphasizes the flooded aspect

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddy_field
A paddy field (or paddy) is a flooded field of arable land used for growing semiaquatic crops, most notably rice and taro.
  Comments:
My Japanese teacher was talking about たんぼ and I did a quick lookup here mid-conversation. I then proceeded to misuse the word because it doesn't mean "farm". Was corrected quite thoroughly: "only rice". (she was talking about frogs croaking loudly in rice paddies at night).

As an American, I'd actually list "rice paddy" first for flavor, while finding "paddy field" totally unfamiliar. "rice field", if gemini is to be believed, is safe worldwide, and is the most common reverso gloss.

Daijs is the only ref with the kanji form.
Combined 25 hits for さなくば in BCCWJ, SHC and CHJ; 0 for 然なくば

Sankoku and shinsen are the only two smaller kokugos I see it in.
The former tags〔文〕, the latter〘古語〙.

.
  Comments:
Clearly functions as a conjunction, on top of being an [exp]. Sankoku has the tag as well.

[dated] is most likely appropriate.

I think 然なくば can be hidden.

but the quote I posted could be translated as
"During a discussion on whether to regulate immigration levels, host Koji Kato asked, 'Why have the rules [for immigration] been so ambiguous?'"

I'd argue it's a better translation than "admittance of foreign nationals" here.

so it's not particularly obscure or odd I don't think?

However, since it's not in any EJ reference (that I can see) for "immigration", it's not of much use for reverse lookups, as it will lead the user to an obscure and uncommon term.

Follow the link for a reasonably detailed response, if interested:

Is the use of "squad depth" marked when discussing sports in the United States?
Yes, the phrase "squad depth" is somewhat "marked" in the United States, meaning it sounds slightly foreign or specifically British to an American ear. While it is perfectly understandable, it is not the primary way Americans describe a team's reserves.

https://gemini.google.com/share/d76f57eebb49
In American sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL), the terminology usually shifts depending on the specific sport:
1. The Standard American Terms
"Roster Depth": This is the most direct equivalent to "squad depth." It refers to the quality of the entire list of players signed to the team.
"Bench Depth": Very common in basketball and baseball. It refers specifically to the quality of the players who do not start the game.
...
  Comments:
I wasn't going to say anything, but I actually had a dream/nightmare about this.

"Squad depth" is, if technically comprehensible, quite unusual in American English. "practice squad" is a term, but outside of that we don't use "squad" that much to begin with for sports teams.

I don't like leading with a term that would be awkward in AmE if there is a neutral alternative. If a "deep talent pool" is sufficiently generic, that seems better, even if its nobody's favorite.

This would be a great candidate for marking regional variations on the English gloss side. It would arguably be worth noting the sports as well. i.e.:
having a deep bench (esp. baseball, basketball)
having squad depth (esp. soccer, (association) football)

You basically have to be a native speaker to have any chance with these glosses.

層が厚い stands alone, but this collocation is itself idiomatic, quite common, and has a variety of sports-specific glosses

LLM suggested "having squad depth" which seems to be fine BrE, but is unusual to an American. The others are natural to me.

近年フリークライミングは日本でも競技人口が増え、今最も熱い注目を集めているスポーツの一つで、選手層が厚いことから日本は世界でも強豪国と目されています。
Japan is regarded as one of the strongest countries in the world due to its strong athletic base.

Obviously a poor translation:
やはり層が厚いし、奥が深い。
The culture of Tokyo has thick layers and it is deep.

研究室はダイバーシティ ところで、宇治原研究室は女性研究者を含め、層が厚いですね。 ダイバーシティですから!
Diversity is the laboratory's hallmark By the way, there are a variety of talented people including female researchers in Ujihara Lab.

他はスペイン、スウェーデン、イギリス、オーストラリア勢などの選手層が厚い。
Other countries with a deep pool of talent include Spain, Sweden and Australia.

Performing Arts Network Japan その他のアーティスト 〈アーティスト〉 すでに述べてきたように、フィンランドのダンス界では活動期間の息が長く、ベテランから新進気鋭まで層が厚い。
Performing Arts Network Japan Faces of the artists, dance companies, venues As we mentioned earlier, Finnish dancers tend to have long careers which means there is a large dance population ranging from veterans to young newcomers.

また、国内企業の約95%は、従業者数50人以下であるため、対象テナント層が厚く、幅広い業種が対象テナントとなります。
With 95% of domestic companies having fewer than 50 employees, there is also a considerable pool of potential tenants for these assets that spans a wide range of industries.
  Comments:
Suggested to me by an LLM for an unrelated exercise, confirmed by a native. Not a super-easy translation. Was used to describe a top-tier Japanese university. 卒業生の層があつい implies the university's graduates have prominent roles throughout Japanese society.

Just adding the xrefs.

For こしらえる there are
#ID=301515_102179 (sense 7)
#ID=299075_104615 (sense 5)
#ID=72837_235459 (sense 3) Though I feel like the english sentence is a bit odd here

This made me think if maybe the "debt" sense should be separate. Or maybe have another gloss or two
