Hope I got the syntax right. レニン seems to be an older/less used way to write Lenin. You can find it for example in Dazai's 斜陽: これと一緒に、レニン選集、それからカウツキイの「社会革命」なども無断で拝借して来て、隣りの間の私の机の上にのせて置いた. NDL has an entry for the book レニン選集, so this isn't just Dazai's personal idiosyncrasy.

On the other hand none of my JJ or JE dictionaries care to have an entry here.

Mostly I think this is worth having so that if you do read a text using this kana form and try to look it up you don't see only the entry for the kidney enzyme renin.

I actually knew the tag existed, and I checked beforehand if it was used. 
But I must've accidentally had other criteria on when doing that search, so I got no results and assumed it was not used (e.g. like [v-unspec]).
However, I just checked again and now there they are. Anyway, good to know.

What about derivate/related entries? I'd assume they should get the tag as well then.
I'm saying this as the just approved 経皮的血管形成術 and 血管形成[2] (and the not yet approved 経皮経管的血管形成術) still have [med].

On a sidenote, I think having a [surg] tag is quite specific for a dictionary.

Ah, I forgot about spec1 entries being included with jmdict, my bad. No objections.

JMnedict entries with the [spec1] tag are included in all XML distributions of JMdict, so nothing is hidden away.

The reason I bring it up is because the name dictionary has better metadata tags for describing proper nouns. If we add the [organization] tag to the entry for 新進党, it seems redundant to include in parentheses that it is a political party. The [ev] tag makes clear that the Boston Tea Party was not a political party. And if we're going to use JMnedict tags, why not just move the entry to JMnedict?

Determining whether things are "major" is frustrating. Daijirin has an entry for ワフド党, for example.

I don't think we should move things like this to the name dictionary - I think it's too major of an event. And putting it in jmnedict more often than not means we're effectively just hiding it away. (lazily commenting here on other entries Stephen has suggested moving:) ワフド党 I'm OK with moving, we wouldn't normally accept that as entry today I don't think. 新進党 is a Japanese party so I think it belongs in the main dictionary as well.
