| Comments: | Recommend a split for まさぐる. Encountered まさぐる as [5]. Isn't [5] the primary meaning of まさぐる? The current arrangement has them out of order. Image and news search seem to indicate まさぐる is primarily either sexual, or groping around for an item. We have 4 [only] entries here, and only one potentially shared sense [1]. While united by a kanji, they are all [uk]. We could make [5] the *first* entry on まさぐる and remove it from here. [2] on まさぐる could xref いじる[1]. まさぐる seems distinct and common enough to me to merit its own headword. |

Wikipedia ordering: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/懺悔 懺悔(ざんげ、さんげ) https://www.kichijyoin.jp/column/kotoba/detail.php?id=26WL845 「懺悔」を仏教では「さんげ」と読みます。「ざんげ」というと、主にキリスト教における罪の告白を意味しますので「さんげ」と読むようにしましょう。 |
|
| Comments: | Encountered as hiragana ざんげ, as a deathbed confession. Google romanizes the kanji as ざんげ. IME completes on macos for ざんげ, but not at all for さんげ. Same for Android. It would seem the "Christian" interpretation has become predominant, perhaps because of Christianity's emphasis on confession. "Used elsewhere" vs "other religions" points to the fact this is the "default" reading now, even in non-religious contexts. |

| Comments: | Interesting. Japanese Wikipedia claims that the reading さんげ is used for the Buddhist sense, and ざんげ was later introduced as a reading for the Christian concept. Daijirin also mentions that the ざんげ reading was introduced sometime during the Edo period, and that さんげ is still used in Buddhism. The three English words seem suitable for both readings/uses, so could we include a small comment along the lines of "さんげ (usu. Buddhism) / ざんげ (other religions/uses)"? |

|
| 7. | A* 2025-11-03 05:34:20 Stephen Kraus <...address hidden...> | |
| Comments: | My JMdict parser alerts me when cross-references are made to hidden forms. So when a form like へたの横好き got the [sK] tag added to it, I knew to go update the reference in the 横好き entry to point to "下手の横好き" instead. I could add a whitelist to my parser to silence the alerts for entries that don't need attention, but the idea leaves a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. Right now there aren't any x-refs to search-only forms in JMdict. I think having a "usually kana" tag and a "usually コミ" note on the same sense is mostly redundant and a bit distracting anyway. |
