  Comments:
it's called nigiri in english. the explanation is now properly marked as such. further more it's not just any stones that are taken but only white stones, and the other player (who has the bowl with black stones) takes only one or two (whatever he wants to guess) so I clarified the wording to make that clear. Also changed the "usu." to make it comform with other go entries and shorter as well.

Split first sense.

I thought the 3rd sense could do with a clearer gloss but I'm not sure if my attempt is any better.

The refs have かしゃ for the 3rd sense but give かしゃく as an alternative reading.

Should it be a separate entry or is this the way to do it?

Redundant, as the meaning is the same as 会意. In kokugos this word is often just referenced back to 会意. Also, none of the entries for other five rokusho types has this type of compound entry, e.g. 指事文字, 形声文字, etc., and adding them would be excessive.

We don't usually have notes like that.
If there is a usual term more common than the one in question, an xref will go there, as it does here.

This has already been noted in the 形声 entry, but I also don't think "compound" cuts it here.
It should just be "character", or "compound character", in my opinion. I opted for "character" now since the newly added explanatory gloss makes it clear that there are two parts here.

Also, the "type of" part can be shortened from the explanation.

Thanks for your draft revisions to the 六書 entries, Sergey. I'm going to do my own version(s). I'll use this as the master, and reopen it. I'll lock in the others to avoid clutter. The entry for 六書 (https://www.edrdg.org/jmwsgi/entr.py?svc=jmdict&sid=&q=1561420) has xrefs to all six of these.)
Some comments:
- it's not really "linguistics".
- I'm making the ref to the 六書 a note.
- as I wrote in 2018, I don't think these are "compounds".
- I have a rather old WWW page explaining these: https://www.edrdg.org/~jwb/mondir/kanjitypes.html

It's not a usage notein this case, but that field is also used for more general information about the sense. As stated in the definition of the field:
"The sense-information elements provide for additional information to be recorded about a sense. Typical usage would be to indicate such things as level of currency of a sense, the regional variations, etc."
In the case of these six 六書 entries, I think it's appropriate that their membership of that class is stated explicitly, and the <s_inf> element is a good place to have it. I'll reinstate it, and reopen for a while.
Yes, two-way xrefs are propbably appropriate here.

I agree with anonさん, that's not a usage note.
A simple solution to omitting the "one of the six classes of Chinese characters" would be to have each of the six also xref back to 六書.
In that way it's clear to the user without too much text in the [expl] gloss. Though having it in the [expl] also seemed fine to me.

Saw on TV during 競馬 analysis by expert, seemed like the meaning was more or less "advice", so I thought "important clue" (e.g. to reading the race) seems to fit. But it's not super straightforward so it makes sense as an entry and the dictionary already has a lot of similar common 大- entries

  Comments:
I partook in a discussion on the English meaning for this expression, and the conclusion was that this usually doesn't mean literally sacrificing oneself.

I did however see an example sentence (国家に身を捧げる) that had one possible translation as "sacrificing oneself for one's country" along with dedicating/offering oneself up.

So I thought it might be worth considering adding that meaning as well.

-<gloss>方底円蓋 literally means “square base, round lid.” It describes something whose top and bottom do not match — figuratively, a mismatch or incompatibility between two things (for example, people, ideas, or situations). I think this is OK. I don't mind an xref being to a search only form.
10. A* 2025-11-04 23:46:31  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
コミ is a hidden reading on that entry because it only applies to one sense. Unless there's a technical reason that we can't x-ref to a hidden form, I don't see a problem with it.

  Comments:
I'll set up Jim's suggestion. But if こみ is objectionable in the x-ref here, my preference would be to use 込み instead and keep コミ hidden in that entry.

I think my preference would be to drop the [sk] from コミ in 2078750, and make the xref here point to コミ. I don't mind that sense having both the note and the [uk] tag.
7. A* 2025-11-03 05:34:20  Stephen Kraus <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
My JMdict parser alerts me when cross-references are made to hidden forms. So when a form like へたの横好き got the [sK] tag added to it, I knew to go update the reference in the 横好き entry to point to "下手の横好き" instead.

I could add a whitelist to my parser to silence the alerts for entries that don't need attention, but the idea leaves a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. Right now there aren't any x-refs to search-only forms in JMdict. I think having a "usually kana" tag and a "usually コミ" note on the same sense is mostly redundant and a bit distracting anyway.
