|
| Comments: | The weblio ref specifically says "rescues a damsel in distress *and takes her as his queen*." I think "knight" here is insufficient. Image search, book search, wikipedia, various refs all point to a fairy tale *prince*. I encountered only "白馬", but in a context where I'm pretty sure this nuance was meant to be invoked (it was unfortunately dropped in translation). Boy is talking to a love interest, says "One day, when I'm the kind of strong, smart, rich man who's worthy of you, I'll take you away on a white horse." (白馬に乗って君をさらいに来るよ) ) That "white horse" bit doesn't really evoke anything in English, but I imagine it does in Japanese. "knight" was added based on 新和英中辞典 in 2013, and google will turn up plenty of people who suggest the parallel, but I think this entry is more useful (and accurate) without it. |
