| Comments: | Just for fun, I posted your definition of 先負 in my social media feed. My Japanese friend said it was wrong and on request gave me a couple references, which seem to fit with the Japanese Wikipedia article I found. So I propose to change the description of luck and time of day. Because none of the references say anything about judgement, I propose to simply drop that. (Avoiding haste fits with the correct definition, with bad luck in the morning, but there's no reason to repeat that really.) Drop this: "; day on which judgment and haste should be avoided (judgement)" |

| Comments: | I agree with that. I also feel like having these in a seperate entry conveys the notion that it's a "different" kind of (possessive) の than the one used in modern day japanese, maybe that's just me though. Apart from that I too think the extra kanji entry for の doesn't provide anything useful, adding the kanji forms here and putting a note onto the first sense is quite clear in my opinion. Also, is it necessary to mark every sense as [uk] here? |
|
| 12. | A* 2024-10-21 06:03:23 Marcus Richert | |
| Comments: | I suggested this previously - to just merge in 乃[sK];之[sK]. They're already mentioned in the sense 1 note and therefore ought to be included as sK's either way. I really don't think having the two of them in a separate entry does anybody any favors. Since ん is a separate entry, I don't think we need to mention it in the notes. |

| Comments: | Thanks for the explanation. I don't have any objections to using the field tags to mean specific terminology or jargon rather than categorization, but until now I had no idea that was the intent. (I finally understand why タンク isn't [mil]). |
|
| 17. | A* 2022-06-02 00:45:24 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
| Comments: | We typically only use field tags for terminology (i.e. technical or special terms). So 積分 gets a math tag but 数学者 does not. It has been suggested in the past that we expand the use of field tags to include all field-related terms but I'm not sure there's much enthusiasm for that idea. I'm quite happy with the current policy, which mirrors that of the JEs and English dictionaries. Deciding what counts as "terminology" isn't an exact science, but simple A+B terms like 麻雀クラブ or 麻雀打ち wouldn't usually be tagged. |

| Comments: | Following up: * GG5 separates 夏季(かき10) and 夏期(かき11) …as do 大辞林 and 広辞苑 Some of the smaller dictionaries do merge them, such as 研究社中 ジーニアス and 新解さん Also, it should probably be consistent across seasons (currently EDICT has the other seasons split). * GG5, 大辞林, and 広辞苑 all consistently split them. * 新解さん consistently merges them. * 研究社中 and ジーニアス tend to merge them, but don’t include many of the 〜期 forms (e.g. 秋期) I’m fine either way (they’re quite close in meaning), but that’s why I suggested splitting this too – the more detailed/major dictionaries do so. |

Meaning 3 sort of captures it ("a fine phrase") but doesn't quite nail it. I added "the emotion or feeling inspired by something heard or read" to meaning #3. Please amend as you see fit. |

I think that in Japanese ティラノサウルス, 等 is being used both for the genus and the species we commonly call Tyrannosaurus rex, with the latter being the most common meaning of ティラノサウルス. While it grates a bit, I think we have to regard "Tyrannosaurus rex" the common gloss of ティラノサウルス, although I'm happy to call it an abbreviation of ティラノサウルスレックス too. |
