| Refs: | From Wiktionary: 3. (1から転じて比喩的に)人や組織の活動の方向、あるいは方向を持つ勢い。 Google "興味のベクトル" |
|
| Comments: | I don't even know how I would add it but it's often used in 興味のベクトル meaning the general direction or field of interest. Googling "興味のベクトル" gives you a lot of examples. It's not the same as 興味の対象, that would be a specific thing of interest, but 興味のベクトル is more like a general direction of interest. I don't know how to exactly describe it in English :) I'll leave it to you to come up with a good translation... |

| Comments: | Ok this one greatly confused me. The "meridian circle" is the object itself, and there exist devices called "transit circle" and "meridian circle". The difference being that a the latter moves on a fixed east-west axis, while the prior doesn't operate on this fixed axis (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meridian_circle). Although Saito says "transit circle", it should be the "meridian circle" since most of the kokugos specify the east-west axis mobility (and GG5 also says "meridian[transit] circle". Meridian transit according to ChatGPT: "A meridian transit occurs when a celestial object, such as the Sun, Moon, or a star, crosses the local meridian—an imaginary line in the sky that runs from the north to the south through the observer's zenith" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meridian_(astronomy) |
