Marcus recently amended both entries and dropped the tags in ありがとう but not コーヒー, so I was just wondering if there was a reason for that difference.

Sorry if I sound annoyed; I need to update my dictionary build scripts to handle this sort of setup, and I don't understand the point of it all if the same information is already provided by the [uk] tag. But it sounds like that ship has sailed, so I'll stop griping.

Way back I needed it on both to generate the "P" stage in the old EDICT format. Now a tag on just one of the forms is enough.

I think it should be dropped from the kanji from all entries when that form isn't particularly common. I think we might as well move away from tagging both reading and kanji and just tag whichever is more common.

What's the reasoning for dropping the [ichi1] tag from 有難う here, but keeping the tag for 珈琲 in the entry for コーヒー?

Basically correct. I wish the note on sense 1 was shorter.

Changing the entry to match せる・させる as it had the same problems as the previous version of that entry.

Unrelated to the above, also changed the note on [2] as it is incorrect；られる is still used as the potential for 来る as こられる and as the potential for certain サ変 where the verb is made from one kanji + する and thus できる does not apply.
This includes verbs such as 決する→決せられる and the ザ変 感ずる→感ぜられる. 
Hence, in modern Japanese, use as the potential of 五段 is the only case where it can be said to have truly fallen into complete disuse.

I think this entry rather pushes the boundaries, but it's been around for quite a while like this. I'd leave it.

What about dropping 接続 notes entirely?  They belong to grammars instead of dictionaries.
Also, the kana-based traditional analysis is unnecessarily complicated.
The term 未然形/imperfective form is ambiguous in case of godan and sahen verbs
while the term "-nai stem" incorrectly selects the し form of sahen instead of さ required by れる.
I would prefer phonological analyses like "godan -u → -areru (-wareru after vowel), ichidan -ru → -rareru, kuru → korareru, suru → sareru", but that's already in the conjugation tables

Since 信州大学 and 農学部 are already entries, I think this could be dropped. In some, such as 岡大医学部, we don't actually have an 岡大 entry. We probably should include those abbreviations.

There are 61 entries in jmnedict ending in 学部 (excluding 10 短期大学部 entries, which are names of institutions). I suggest we delete all of them. I don't think they're useful. It's a tiny subset of all the university*faculty combinations.
