アンサーフォン gets the most web hits.

Wikipedia has both for the 研究所 entry but it seems most of the articles about research institutes use -じょ and in the Wiktionary entry -じょ is first. -しょ is used for a few foreign institutes for seemingly no particular reason. |
| 10. | A* 2024-10-04 01:37:05 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...> | |
| Comments: | It seems to me sankoku's approach would be more helpful to beginners/less advanced learners, while Meikyo's approach would be better for advanced speakers. I think (but of course don't know) our user base heavily skews towards beginner so I feel that approach would make much more sense for us. |
|
| 9. | A* 2024-10-04 01:07:14 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
| Comments: | It's hard to know where to draw the line with [form]. If we define it as "written language", it belongs on a huge number of entries. It seems that the 文 tag is used this way in sankoku. Meikyo, on the other hand, only uses it for literary or very formal-sounding words. I prefer meikyo's approach. I think [form] would be less informative/useful if we expanded its scope to include all terms that are mainly used in written language. |

|
| Comments: | Looks like this does actually come from "hormone" and the 放る物 etymology is an urban myth. Should we undo the split? I see that daijr and daijs have this term as a separate entry but they don't explain the origin. Also, while 放る物 is Kansai-ben, this sense of ホルモン is not. By the way Jim, I noticed that searching ホルモン on WWWJDIC brings up this entry ahead of the other (priority-tagged) ホルモン entry. Do you know why that is? |
