Daijr has アンサホン as a trademark ("Ansafone") but it only gets a few hundred Google hits. My other refs don't have any of these forms.
アンサーフォン gets the most web hits.
"answerphone" is usually one word.

No change to the above, but I wonder if there could be a passive [etc] link to the above.

The site has the helpful entry in the combined of:-

押しつぶされる 【おしつぶされる】 be crushed; get jammed; be pressed flat against

But, a passive link would indicate the same.

but it seems most of the articles about research institutes use -じょ and in the Wiktionary entry -じょ is first. -しょ is used for a few foreign institutes for
seemingly no particular reason.
I think the -じょ should come first with freq tags added for both

As this is a Japanese->English dictionary, I don't think we always need to state explicitly that a term can be used in both a literal and figurative sense. In this case, it would be obvious from context what meaning is being used.

I agree with Robin that [form] should be used for literary or very formal-sounding words.
10. A* 2024-10-04 01:37:05  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
It seems to me sankoku's approach would be more helpful to beginners/less advanced learners, while Meikyo's approach would be better for advanced speakers. I think (but of course don't know) our user base heavily skews towards beginner so I feel that approach would make much more sense for us.
9. A* 2024-10-04 01:07:14  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
It's hard to know where to draw the line with [form]. If we define it as "written language", it belongs on a huge number of entries. It seems that the 文 tag is used this way in sankoku. Meikyo, on the other hand, only uses it for literary or very formal-sounding words.
I prefer meikyo's approach. I think [form] would be less informative/useful if we expanded its scope to include all terms that are mainly used in written language.
8. A* 2024-10-04 00:41:20  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Quoting my previous edit:
"Isn't it a good idea to have a tag to demonstrate a word is not really used in spoken language? I thought that was one of the functions of [form]."

The examples in daijr/s are very old. I'd have just dropped this reading しょうじ(娘子) entry. I don't think it's needed.

OK. Done.
WWWJDIC doesn't attempt to reorder katakana headword entries - it used not to be an issue. I may be able to look into it.

https://kangaeruhito.jp/article/44496
>>「ホルモン焼き」は、戦後になって現れた料理と見られます。当時の「ホルモン」ということばの使い方からすれば、「ホルモン焼き」もまた「精力がつく焼肉」というほどの意味だったと考えるのが自然です。「ほうるもん」から来たという説は、やはり採用することができません。
https://news.yahoo.co.jp/expert/articles/2cdc04d3049f6e463967cbcbc25c9f285f34c0a1
>>「ホルモン」の語源は「放るもん」ではないと何度でも言わなければならない。
  Comments:
Looks like this does actually come from "hormone" and the 放る物 etymology is an urban myth. Should we undo the split? I see that daijr and daijs have this term as a separate entry but they don't explain the origin.
Also, while 放る物 is Kansai-ben, this sense of ホルモン is not.
By the way Jim, I noticed that searching ホルモン on WWWJDIC brings up this entry ahead of the other (priority-tagged) ホルモン entry. Do you know why that is?

いくつ知ってる?牛・豚・鶏の部位別「ホルモン」13種をまるごと解説!

OL offal: the entrails and internal organs of an animal used as food.

googling the word, it doesn't seem to be strictly defined as beef or pork.

furunavi
ホルモンは、主に牛や豚の腸を指す言葉です。
一方、ホルモンと混同されがちな部位に「もつ」がありますが、もつは牛や豚、鶏などの内臓肉を総じて指す言葉です。 また、厳密な区分けをせずに、内臓肉をすべてホルモンと一括りにして呼ぶ場合も珍しくありません。
