I don't think it's meaningful to add [nokanji] to [ik] in an entry where all kanji are [rK]. Also quite likely people read the kanji as ガム back when they were actually used.

When it comes to handling animals, for eating, dressing and butchering, essentially mean the same thing
...but yeah, I haven't heard many mentions of "butchering" a fish. (and only a little child, would suspect that dressing a fish, is about putting clothes, or a dressing, on it. A child, and/or someone intentionally misinterpreting it, for the sake of punning)
The important point, is that it's absolutely not a carving knife, by any stretch of the imagination. It's made for butchering/dressing fish.
The current gloss is perfectly fine, and accurate. 👍

Why you insist on going by J-E dictionaries, and ignoring the far more reliable J-J dictionaries, Wikipedia (one absolutely should be skeptical of Wikipedia, but that's far more true of Japanese J-E dictionaries, so...), and the general obvious meanings of butchering/dressing vs carving (which one shouldn't need to look up), or look at specific culinary or kitchen knife sources...

Two problems with this edit:
1. we already have a ねどこ entry (1360150). Better to add the 寝所 form to that, as in GG5.
2. this entry (1792890) has a sound clip for しんじょ. Best to keep this as 寝所/しんじょ for that reason.
I'll rework along those lines when I get a chance.

my problem with duplicating the kanji forms is that it makes search slightly less immediate
"日ぐらし" search-only form is here and not in the other entry, but results on google are mostly related to the 一日中 sense
we obviously could have "日ぐらし" in both the entries, but only having it in the 一日中 sense entry seems less confusing to me

btw not related to my previous comment but i think 日暮 is [io], in none of my refs

Daijs and nikk combine the two meanings into entry.
With two entries like this, I think it's better to duplicate the kanji form(s) rather than the sense.

found it used as a smk example, kana form used in daijr/s, shinkoku, meikyo, etc. so i think it's [uk] despite the n-grams
daijr/s doesn't have its usual archaic quotes
nikk quotes a early meiji era 唱歌
enwiktionary has it as a synonym of 皇国
