Did too much reading for the 刺客候補 entry. Refs explain the change.

Just as an observation on modern usage, on my search for a pronunciation of 刺客候補 (didn't find one), I stumbled on a broadcast on pro-Trump (親トランプ) and anti-Trump(反トランプ) candidates squaring off, along with a big pic of Trump's face with 刺客 written beside it. The race was Liz Cheney(the "traditional" Republican, now a rebel) vs Trump-backed Harriet Hageman. It was a pretty big deal in U.S. news at the time.

The device used in this broadcast to present graphics is something to be hold. Trump's face + 刺客 unfolds 5 seconds in

I'd note that the term "assassin" would make no sense for a candidate from an opposing party. That's just an ordinary election. The party is trying to "take out" someone who isn't toeing the line.

      Buzzword: shikaku (English language explanation)
      https://web-japan.org/trends/buzz/bz0508.html

The term, meaning "assassin," may have ominous connotations, but it quickly became one of the most popular election keywords in the wake of the dissolution of the House of Representatives in the summer of 2005. The resulting election pitted Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro against rebel lawmakers of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party who voted against a package of bills to privatize Japan's postal services, which the prime minister has been pushing, in the lower house. Koizumi not only has denied party endorsement to those of the anti-postal privatization camp but took steps to drive them out of power.

Chatgpt is crazy by the way: I asked it:
does japanese have a colloquial term to describe a candidate fielded by a political party to oust an incumbent of the same party?
      ChatGPT said:
Yes, Japanese has a colloquial term for such a situation: "刺客" (shikaku), which literally means "assassin." This term is used metaphorically in politics to describe a candidate fielded by a political party to challenge and replace an incumbent within the same party.
The term gained popularity in the 2005 Japanese general election, when then-Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent "shikaku" candidates...

isn't sense 2 not "make short" but "omit / leave out (parts)"? e.g. 細部の説明を端折る (daijisen) = omit the details

      one example here: https://www.makonako.com/2005/12/zii.html
      でも、もうちょっとキャラを端折った方が分かりやすいかなとは思いました、

      and another:
      あれから6年の歳月が過ぎた‥‥‥‥。
      6年といっても、きっちりと数えた訳じゃあない。単に日の昇る回数を数えただけさ。
      数え忘れた日もあるし、あるいは何日か端折った時もあったから正確じゃないぜ。
      だからもしかしたら、1、2年かもしれないし、あるいは10年くらいたっている可能性だってある。

What's the justification for tagging じゅっかい as [rK]?
We've mostly been using [rK] for words that are usually/always written in kana because it's easy to compare usage with the n-grams.
I think we need to be careful with how we apply [rK] when the word is typically written with kanji.

References were given in the original submission. The unabridged version of nikk contained a lot more entries than the abrigded version on kotobank today. That said, the current policy is to not include archaic readings or words if they only appear in nikk.

Shouldn't this be merged with けつあな? Or should しりあな move to the けつあな entry?

I think しど can be dropped. Daijr only has it for a Buddhism sense. Daijs and koj have a 四回 sense for しど but it seems it's only read that way in certain archaic/obscure compounds. If we want to keep it, I'd split it out.

Marcus, with the way this entry is currently configured, 4°【しど】 is a valid headword but technically doesn't apply to either sense.

ガタイ is a pretty colloquial word and よい is a relatively rare reading of 良い which makes がたいのよい very odd
n-grams seem to back this up
ガタイの良い has 1 hit on youglish and is pronounced いい, ガタイのいい has 5 (6 if you include a ガタイがいい) and ガタイのよい has 0
i'm not sure がたいのよい should even be visible here
