I'm fine with "Gorilla spp." or "Gorilla spp., esp. the western gorilla, Gorilla gorilla", but I think both may in fact be overkill and just having "gorilla" may be best. two separate senses is definitely overkill for a simple katakana word that is obviously translated as 'gorilla' |

The example sentence given by it is from a story collection of the kamakura period (古今著聞集, ~1254). On top of that the "捕り手" sense is first in weblio古語. I think [arch] can be assumed here. I see the third sense only in daijs and nikkoku, daijs gives an example from the heike monogatari (kamakura). Nikk has 1185 as the earliest, and ~1807 as the latest dating. Probably also [arch]. |

| Comments: | [adj-t] is rarely encountered, In principle I don't think it should be the first PoS. At the same time it's far more unsightly to try and gloss this as an adverb. On top of the fact that adjectival glosses are the most appropriate option, because the ~とする construction literally translates into "(to) be astounded", or just "astounded" if it's used as a 連体修飾語. Could leave the PoSs like this and just have a note "usu. as ~とする". Alternatively you could switch the PoSs, but retain the former glosses with a note "usu. adjectivally as ~とする". I think a note would be helpful in general. Hmmm |
