| Comments: | this is not a duplicate. both are entry ID 1208920; however, it appears that because an anonymous editor revived a rejected fork and Jim approved on that branch instead of rejecting, this one entry now has two approved branches. (if you search for 株, two entries will show.) this should not be able to happen, so it appears to be a database error. i will raise this on the mailing list so it can be fixed i will try deleting the other forked branch; however, i suspect that it will delete the entire entry and it will need to be restored. if it was you who revived the rejected branch, please do not do so again. edit off of the approved branches that represent the current entries only. |

| Comments: | It's certainly not the most common use, but shouldn't we squeeze "canine" in here somewhere? Particularly for medical/science terms. Eijiro has 95 collocations. Or "canine heart disease", (which I think would have to become "heart disease in dogs", not "dog heart disease", though google says the latter is possible). (Ranking is: 1. "heart disease in dogs" 2. | Comments: | I'm going to reopen this. There's a big difference between being a 1) nobleman - a person part of the nobility who in most cases held little power, and 2) being a "powerful Japanese feudal lord" who "ruled most of Japan from their vast, hereditary land holdings" (enwiki). The meaning is different enough to qualify splitting in both Japanese and English. If the two meanings in English look too similar, that can be handled by making them more different This isn't some obscure little historical issue but the word is used with both meanings today. If somebody looked up the use of "tonosama" in hyakunin isshu decks (for one example of contemporary use of the word in the Heian sense meaning) and walked away with the understanding that the "tonosama" cards of those decks depict "powerful feudal lords", then we've done them a disservice. |
