| Comments: | I'm going to reopen this. There's a big difference between being a 1) nobleman - a person part of the nobility who in most cases held little power, and 2) being a "powerful Japanese feudal lord" who "ruled most of Japan from their vast, hereditary land holdings" (enwiki). The meaning is different enough to qualify splitting in both Japanese and English. If the two meanings in English look too similar, that can be handled by making them more different This isn't some obscure little historical issue but the word is used with both meanings today. If somebody looked up the use of "tonosama" in hyakunin isshu decks (for one example of contemporary use of the word in the Heian sense meaning) and walked away with the understanding that the "tonosama" cards of those decks depict "powerful feudal lords", then we've done them a disservice. |

| Comments: | Here again as with previous submissions, the actual radical shape is not included, nor is the radical number. In addition, it should include "at left" as below:- 片偏 【かたへん】 (n) kanji "side" radical (radical 91) at left I have not tried to amend the entry for the reasons which have been noted on the previous submissions. However, I wondered if the following example gives a good way to include the radical where there may be some difficulty in pasting in the actual radical on its own:- 阜偏 【こざとへん】 (n) (e.g. left side of 防) (See 邑・おおざと) kanji "mound" or "small village" radical at left (radical 170) |

It could be quite ephemeral, never really catch on, etc. Since it's an alterntive kanji form, I guess we can bend and add it, but I'll mark it as "iK" which means it's "irregular kanji". If it get more common over the years, that tag could be dropped. We have the "obsc" tag (obscure), but that applies to the whole entry; not just individual surface forms or readings. |
