Personally wouldn't have split, as they're the same name, just with different orthographies. The Apple PC was named after the apple variety, and the other two were named after people.

  Comments:
Somewhere I got it into my head that ngrams didn't have the nakaguro forms, but even seeing the stats, my opinion on the nakaguro forms for the "treadmill" terms isn't much changed.

Is there a compelling reason to not [sk] a practically non-existent nakaguro form? Not proposing a campaign here, but if we stumble on something this, it seems preferable to indicate "this form should not be used".

I think you might even agree that actually using "ルーム・ランナー" would be objectively a mistake in Japanese(if not by some technical definition, then at least pragmatically).

If not [sk] then [rk]. ルームランナー feels like it was probably invented as a marketing term, and perhaps never had a "real" nakaguro form. (At 0.3%, spelling mistakes could explain the ngrams). This is speculation of course.

"running machine" has a clearer two-term etymology, but it's still rare. [rk] seems appropriate.

I suggest these changes with learners in mind. A nakaguro form simply being second on a list, without even [rk], suggests that they may be interchangeable. That's obviously not the case here.

  Comments:
This is a useful distinction to be aware of when we have so many treadmill terms. You won't find a "ルームランナー" at a proper gym, and if you want to buy something for yourself, a "ルームランナー" is what you want to search for. (Speaking from experience, I bought one for covid).

The dot was added in a batch update. I don't believe this is ever two words in practice.

Found the expression ハリコシ in an advertising pamphlet for hair related services and, after finding explanations and context for ハリ (Katakana) on the web) (顔のハリ, 肌のハリ, 髪の毛のハリ), realised that the database entry needs a small refinement so that "Text Glossing" understands ハリ (Katakana).
I don't think this is really a 4th sense, but I was unable to add this information under sense 1 or 2: here I got an error marked after the added note - please adjust as needed... :) (I am also not sure why/how sense 1 and 2 are differentiated.)

Evidently this sense of treadmill:
a large wheel turned by the weight of people or animals treading on steps fitted into its inner surface, formerly used to drive machinery.
  Comments:
Image search...

I was going to xref some better "treadmill" terms, but this is a totally unrelated object to the exercise equipment.

You might have something more succinct, but given how common the exercise equipment is, and how rare this [hist] meaning is in English, I think something extra is warranted here.

This isn't a generic term even for the [hist] treadmill. It's quite narrowly defined.

  Comments:
This is the term I'm familiar with, and you can see it is the term used in Shinjuku Sports Center. I'm surprised to see the ngrams so high on トレッドミル actually. (I've got one in my living room, and am arranging 粗大ゴミ right now). ルームランナー seems most common for home machines...

I don't feel like this should be glossed as "running machine", unless we also want to add "running machine" to 踏み車, トレッドミル, and ルームランナー. It is of course comprehensible, and "running machine" can be used in English in a descriptive way, but it's usually a literal/bad gloss where "treadmill" should be preferred.

Won't be surprised if it comes back, but that's my intuition.

Added an also-common マシーン form, I don't think the interpunct forms are common.

  Comments:
I don't think [int] is correct. As the jitenon entry says, it's a symbol. のし is just a reading for the symbol.
This wouldn't typically be described as "ASCII art" in English as ノ and シ aren't ASCII characters. The term is used more loosely in Japanese.
