しかし、二つを合わせて“かわば”や“かうま”とは読みません。
気になる読み方の正解ですが……。これ、実は“かば”と読みます。

mentioned at the end of nikk entry. not in daijs. It's on wiktionary, did they copy it from nikk? Not on wikipedia.

I guess we could leave as [sk] for people who search phonetically, but given the total absence of ngrams, I'm thinking even little Japanese children must learn what hippos are from a young age. We don't generally list alt. readings as [sk] that don't regularly appear in actual use. Wiktionary is surprising. English wikipedia of the japanese entry does *not* give かわうま.

取り行う is rare, arguably irregular, and only recorded in one reference. I don't think we need to display it.

I wondered if 行なう should be considered irregular (the jōyō okurigana is just おこな.う). Meikyo and daijisen seem to regard 行なう as "許容," so an irregular tag might be too strong.

  Comments:
The explicit reference "of payment" in the meaning is to distinguish 領収書 from 受領書, a kind of receipt issued to acknowledge a delivery.

In reference to previous discussions of レシート vs. 領収書: I think the context where those two can or should be distinguished is shrinking rapidly, since with electronic payments even レシート are personalised with debit/credit card numbers, and both レシート and 領収書 are nowadays usually printed (but either could be hand-written if no printer is available). And with self-check-in terminals in hotels, electronic ticket counters, and online commerce (both ordering of goods and booking of travel and hospitality services) we always get what in terms of information content resembles a 領収書 (not a レシート).

  Comments:
Reorder by ngrams (cursory google shows the full kanji form his the most common). Add an [sK] variant.

Trim glosses (consistent with similar [exp] entries)

を癪に障る	No matches

Not transitive. Moved the [exp] glosses to the front, changed the others to non-transitive forms.

Daijs gives:
腹が立つ。気に障る。癇 (かん) に障る。「―・る態度」
Unfortunately 腹が立つ, 気に障る and 癇に障る have somewhat different grammatical behaviors. This term seems to me to be more like the latter two.
Our glosses:
腹が立つ to get angry; to take offense; to take offense (subject is the annoyed person)
気に障る to hurt one's feelings; to rub someone the wrong way. (external agent/subject)
癇に障る to irritate one; to get on one's nerves. (note the unusual "to irritate [[one]]") (external agent/subject)
We also have:
神経に障る to hit a nerve; to get on one's nerves
虫に触る [rare] to get on one's nerves; to cause offence

sankoku's definition makes this look like like 腹が立つ. It is a victim-focused definition: 腹が立って、怒らずにはいられない気分になる

However, examples in the wild all seem like there is an external source/subject that is 障る'ing the victim's 癪. You can even find, for example, の癪に障る
無意識に***相手の癪に障る***ような言動や行動をしているなんて時には、困りものです。
transl. mine: to cause offense to/irritate someone else (相手の癪に障る)
の癪に障る	304

"invidious" is my English SAT word of the day. Waffled and finally removed it, along with some other synonyms that don't seem necessary here (they aren't present on similar entries).

Because the first ref noted that 癪に障る historically related to the accumulating of stress leading to physical pain(and spasms in the gut), I left "grating" as a gloss, rather than harmonizing with 癪にさわる. I'm not sure if this bares out in modern usage, however.

Note copied from 思わしい . We sometimes seem to spell out "negative", sometimes not.
sankoku note: 打ち消しの形で使う

I've also seen the note 《usu. in the negative》.
It appears that as long as the sentence ends up negative, this works, for example:

はかばかしい成果とはいかなかったようだな
https://yourei.jp/はかばかしい成果

(a bunch of negated はかばかしい成果 results at the link).

In fact, uses of はかばかしい are almost all negated: (likewise with はかばかしく + neg. verb)

==

Not [uk] because of 付, but 鑞 is obviously [uk].

ハンダ付け is soldering. There is an overlap in concepts. Brazing is a high-temp affair with a torch for joining metal pipes (and similar activities). Soldering is low-temp, low-melting-point, as would be done on a circuit board.

Wikipedia xref is Brazing, and there is a dedicated page for soldering under ハンダ付け as well.

All "brazing"
https://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=ろう付け

All "brazing"
https://context.reverso.net/translation/japanese-english/ろう付

The inclusion of "soldering" here just introduces unneeded ambiguity. (I am looking for the word for "soldering on a circuit board" to try and get some professional work done. Had to figure out which of our "soldering" entries actually applies...)

  Comments:
These comments cover お別れ会, お別れの会, and 偲ぶ会.

Not to be overly personal (ok, overly personal) but my dog passed away unexpectedly this morning. I asked a doctor what to do by phone, and he asked me if I wanted an おわいかい or not (I misheard him). Figured it out though, so I've be digging around these terms.

Note: the related term 告別式 is similarly split into two senses.
(告別式 seems to usually appear with a more solumn, black, saying-farewell-to-the-deceased "funeral"-like sense )

Long story short:
お別れの会 = お別れ会, senses [1] and [2]
お別れ会[2] = 忍び会 (only one sense, nearly identical synonyms)
With maybe *one* exception: 偲ぶ会 doesn't seem especially applicable to pets (at least not commonly)
somewhat less frequent, セレモニー in place of 会
"deceased" is a tiny touchup since I am here. britannica confirms my intuition that this fits better with funerals.
google searches suggest the "funeral" usage [2] dominates [1] (especially with the の variant). Maybe they should be ordered in reverse.

=== End short version ===

I strongly think that a distinction between [1] and [2] adds clarity, even if [2] is essentially a euphemistic application of [1]. I think it makes the glosses and xrefs cleaner, and is unambiguous that this is a usable expression in both contexts. We've already kind-of agreed on the existence of [2], which I just pulled from お別れの会.

I'd never heard the term "memorial meeting". Seems fine, but far less common than "memorial service", and a bit less common than the friendlier "memorial gathering". All of these describe the same activity.

"gathering to remember a dead person" should be expanded to "pet" (ペットの別れ会). "a dead person" is necessary in some form, somewhere, because we have a huge number of "memorial service" entries (war memorials, natural disasters, etc.). Only a handful are individual funeral/death specific and it would be good to distinguish them. I said "person, pet, etc..." but I don't know if anything actually comes after pet. Perhaps it's just "person or pet".

home-going service/homegoing service are interesting glosses, and probably applicable in some cases, but they seem rather explicitly Christian

  Comments:
I agree with previous comments (and current glosses) that these terms are essentially synonymous.

Given the comparative rarity of this structure, and commonness of the xref, I think it's more helpful to mark [rare] and link to the synonym, than to link to 捗 to help piecemeal-construct the meaning of 捗が + 行く.

The kanji forms are quite rare indeed. sankoku does not list kanji for はか (though it gives はかがいく as the example), and neither does daijs.

Nikk gives only はか【果】 が 行(ゆ・い)く, for which there is no ngram support at all.

You basically can't find 捗が行く or 果が行く with kanji on the general internet, but they do turn up in some old google books results.

daijs gives いく and ゆく. nikk gives only ゆく. ngrams give いく
はかがいかない	235
はかがいきませ	52

Not sure I've met a word where it was considered impermissible for 行く to be read as いく. In any case, Nikk secondarily supports いく as legitimate, at least. Sankoku lists ambiguously in kanji 行く form.

See notes on お別れ会. This appears the have both senses, but by comparison the non-death-related "parting ceremony" seems quite, quite uncommon.

I have only added the xref. Can't do much until/unless it is approved in some form. Will need to be aligned with however the xref is settled.

I think this needs to be split into two senses, both of which reference the respective sense on お別れ会. "farewell party" might even be [rare], hard to say definitively, but it sure doesn't pop up in searches without hunting for it. (It may be that の is inherently more formal, so leans toward the solemn use?)

動植物名よみかた辞典 普及版 「蕪菜」の解説
蕪菜 (カブナ・カブラナ)
  Comments:
Initially excised かぶらな from the かぶ entry(xref).

If daijs is to be believed, we had the wrong kanji on かぶな as well.(nikk seems to agree, actually). Seems to be a (sufficiently) clean division between 蕪菜 and 蕪/蕪菁. Everything in this entry combined is rare compared to the main entry.

Removing these from the main entry allows it to be simplified quite a bit, rather than squeezing everything into one spot (even if these are all synonyms).

  Comments:
Both gloss forms are prevalent.

This is the kind of technique required to do board-level component replacement on electronics (like fixing an iPhone by replacing a single chip, rather than swapping out whole assembled parts). Fine tools and microscopes generally required.

ソルダリング and ハンダ付け seem somewhat interchangeable, but micro soldering is just "マイクロソルダリング".
