https://www.navy-net.co.uk/community/threads/four-gun-broadsides.36940/

Someone's personal experience with half-broadsides and full-broadsides. It's possible that someone a long time ago may have used 半舷砲 to indicate firing *half* the guns on one side of the ship?

半舷砲	0	0.0% <-- This term, no book results (no nothing)
舷側砲火	0	0.0% real book results (example: 舷側砲火が発揮可能な範囲内で敵艦隊に対して斜め方向に進撃し)
片舷齊發	0	0.0% antiquated kanji, all book results are military vocab references 片舷齊發交換す to exchange broadsides
片舷斉発	0	0.0% small handful of non-reference book results
片舷斉射	213	100.0% many book results
したがって、六発のロケット弾を一斉に発射する一機のヘルキャットは、駆逐艦の片舷斉射に匹敵するパンチ力を持っていた。
  Comments:
Usually a google book search returns matches for even our most obscure terms. This search returns exactly one match:

The Supplementary Japanese-English Dictionary
By United States. War Department · 1945
https://www.google.co.jp/books/edition/The_Supplementary_Japanese_English_Dicti/s0hFZK2MMlUC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq="半舷砲"&pg=PA72&printsec=frontcover
半舷砲 -> broadside fire

(The resource itself is incredible to look at(you can download the pdf). The English is typewriter-typed, the Japanese is hand-written in Kanji for every single term. This would also appear to be the source of the "half watch ashore" gloss for 半舷上陸, which might have been an invention of the translator even then)

Otherwise, no book results, no news results, no ngrams, no Japanese references (except a single example sentence from sources unknown), basically nothing.

(three pages of standard search results are all J->E dictionary entries)

We already have 舷側
1. ship's side; broadside

We don't have 舷側砲, which is in wikipedia, and doesn't mean "fire" from the broadside, but "the artillery battery" on the broadside. (or, a single canon on the broadside)
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/舷側砲
舷側砲	202	1.1%
舷側	17385	98.9%

The War Department reference actually has another term for broadside fire the matches the above:
舷側砲火 GENSOKU HŌKA Broadside Fire.
This also gets 0 ngrams, but *does* appear in book results on war/naval activities etc.

Perhaps more promising is this entry:
"片舷齊發" HENGEN SEIHATSU Broadside, in naval gunnery.

The kanji seem obsolete, I would expect this to equate to:
片舷斉発 <-- no ngrams, but has some book results

But an ngram search on 片舷 gives...
片舷斉射	213 *This* would seam to be the rough equivalent of "broadside fire". Quite a number of google book results.

We don't have any of these other terms. Might be worth adding any of them with appropriate [rare] entries, except maybe for 片舷斉射.

The simplest explanation for 半舷砲 is that this was a mistake when it was catalogued in the first place. Or, it was a rare one-off usage that someone happened to capture and catalogue, but it would seem no one has used it in writing since.

  Comments:
It's not just us that combine 収める/納める/おさめる - The three Kenkyusha JEs (GG5, 中辞典, ルミナス) do it too, as do 広辞苑, 大辞林, etc. As shown, 中辞典 has "supply" but indicates in the example that 納める is used.
GG5 has a combined 納める/収める entry and a separate 収める entry. That may be the way to go, but it would be a lot of work. Perhaps putting the "to supply" sense back with a 納める restriction would be simpler.

English xref is "surface mining"
Note the failure to translate "strip mining" or "open-pit mining" as *types* of 露天掘り。(Instead, their characteristics are defined alongside the original English terms)
一方、使用する重機で区別することもある。Strip Mining(en)はドラッグライン(固定したクレーン)を使う方法であり、Open Pit Mining(en)はシャベルカーとダンプカーを使う方法である。Strip Miningは効率がいいが、設備投資がかかり、広い設置場所が必要である。Open Pit Miningはシャベルカーを使うため、斜面の多い場所では便利である[1]。

そして、鉱石を掘る方法には、大きく分けて「露天掘り」と「坑内掘り」がある(右図参照)。

https://americanmineservices.com/types-of-surface-mining/#:~:text=Surface mining refers to the,on the minerals being extracted.
Surface mining makes up a huge percent of mining projects. Surface mining refers to the removal of the terrain surface to access minerals underneath. In particular, surface mining is used to retrieve sand, gravel, stones, coal, iron and other metals.

There are five recognized types of surface mining, each with specific variations depending on the minerals being extracted. These include strip mining, open-pit mining, mountaintop removal, dredging and highwall mining.
  Comments:
Lead gloss should definitely be "surface mining". This is a common, industry standard term.

"open-pit mining" is a *type* of 露天掘り. English seems to have a lot of fine distinctions for types of surface mining that Japanese lacks(see last reference). I have not found any good gloss, for example, for "open-pit mining", "strip mining", etc.

reverso is a mix of all the glosses now listed:
https://context.reverso.net/translation/japanese-english/露天掘り

We already have an entry for
露天掘り炭鉱
open-pit coal mine; open-cut coal mine

I think I've included everything needed here, but see also comments on 坑内掘り, also edited.

Improvements in Employment of Women and the Elderly
[paragraph on women]

Moreover, Chart 2 also shows that employment of the elderly has been growing. However, in the case of the elderly, the share of non-regular employees has been rising. The reason is likely that many are hired as temporary or part-time workers after reaching retirement age. Because Japan's population is aging, this means that it is unlikely that the share of non-regular employees in employment as a whole will decrease. However, looking at employees between 15 and 64 years of age, the share of non-regular employees has been declining since around 2014.

また、同じ図2に見るように、高齢者の雇用も伸びています。ただし、高齢者の場合は、非正規の割合が上昇しています。これは定年退職後、嘱託や非常勤として雇われる高齢者が多いからだと思われます。日本は高齢化が進んでいる訳ですから、このことは、雇用全体として非正規の割合が低下することが難しいということを意味します。しかし、15-64歳までの雇用者を見れば、2014年頃から、非正規の割合が低下しています。
  Comments:
Small note of little importance, the previous translation coincidentally ran into my 嘱託(社員) edit. The workers were probably "RE-hired after reaching (mandatory) retirement age".

And I found the original source.
https://www.boj.or.jp/en/about/press/koen_2019/ko190306a.htm

I was going to suggest that context probably made things clear. Instead, it looks like this is an official Japanese translation of a Japanese source document that dropped some (perhaps non-critical) nuances.

Add [vs,vi]

If it were me, I wouldn't have added the GG5 gloss of "reaching retirement age". It definitely works in some contexts, but this term doesn't mean "turned 65". It means "turned 65 and had to retire". In English, I feel like even after saying "After reaching retirement age...", you would *still* have to add "...she left the company (...and started a small business)".

Take this reverso translation:
これは定年退職後、嘱託や非常勤として雇われる高齢者が多いからだと思われます。
"The reason is likely that many are hired as temporary or part-time workers after reaching retirement age."

I feel like the translator lost a step. I think "after mandatory retirement" would have been clearer.

Also, you can "reach retirement age" without being employed. You definitely need a job to 定年退職. (One more reason why the previous translation ends up ambiguous).

Mining in India is of two kinds. The first is called open pit mining. This kind of mining does not require you to get into a tunnel. The other kind of mining is called closed-pit mining. This requires you to go underground inside a tunnel.
そして、鉱石を掘る方法には、大きく分けて「露天掘り」と「坑内掘り」がある(右図参照)。

underground mining

Generally "underground mining"
https://context.reverso.net/translation/japanese-english/坑内掘り
  Comments:
The old gloss should not be restored. "pit mining", in general, will be interpreted as "open pit mining" in English, which is literally the opposite of this term.

The term "closed-pit mining" is used, but is comparatively rare, is never used on English wikipedia, and is almost non-existent in news results. Usually when contrasted directly with open-pit mining. Google gives a made up number of ~6000 hits for closed-pit mining, vs. 1.1 million for "open-pit mining" and 3.8 million for "underground mining". I don't think it's worth the gloss.

Out on a limb and call this [ant], not [see=]. See reference remark:
大きく分けて「露天掘り」と「坑内掘り」がある

"Above the surface" and "under the surface" mining.

If you start typing 坑内掘り in google, it will autocomplete 坑内掘り 露天掘り
If you start typing 露天掘り in google, it will autocomplete 露天掘り 坑内掘り

Bumpers
Bumpers are also pads/cushions that prevent your boat from sustaining injury while it’s tied to the dock. What’s the difference between bumpers and fenders? Fenders are on the boat, while bumpers are on the dock. Same job, different approach.

nikk: (attached to boat or pier)

  Comments:
Quick image search shows that this applies whether hung from the boat, or hung from the dock. Either way, it is boat-hull-protector.

In spite of the rigid separation suggested by my last reference, it appears that the terms:
boat bumper, boat fender, dock fender, dock bumper
could all be used.
