Most of the top web results are for the guide sense.
It appears that インタプリタ and インタープリタ are used almost exclusively for the computing sense. I don't think this sense needs an explanation.

I think the note was fine. These forms are mentioned in the kokugos.
I don't think the x-ref is needed. The kokugos point from 一国 to 一刻.
According to meikyo, sense 2 is an adjective only.
I don't think sense 1 is used adverbially.

reverso is all overviews and outlines. alc has a bunch of collocations that translate as overview or outline.

"general statement" seems like what a criminal's defense attorney gives at a press conference.

Reverso has one such example of "general statement" though:
これは非常に個人的なことだ、そして、概説はできない。
This is highly individual, and no general statement can be made.

This appears to be a poor E->J translation. This looks to be the original English piece:
https://www.zetatalk.com/index/zeta426.htm

"You often decribe souls as something outside of our human control, some kind of external entities living inside our bodies, our brains. Is it really like that? Is there a way to become conscious of our souls, of their memories, their spiritual orientation?"

"If the soul so desires, yes. If the soul decides it wants to maneuver this incarnation without informing the human body it inhabits, it will take that approach. This is highly individual, and no general statement can be made."

I'm translating a document about the architecture of Himeji Castle and the term 裏栗石 came up
...
I guess the English term is stone fill. But you need additional explanation to explain the Japanese dry stone technique. 裏栗石 is a river stone around 10 to 30 cm in diametre (or larger ones broken to the size; that's the definition of 栗石) as used to fill the space between the rocks on the surface and the inner earth mound.

https://www.token.co.jp/estate/useful/archipedia/word.php?jid=00016&wid=29121&wdid=01
「栗石」とは、丸みを持った径が15センチ以下の石のこと。

sankoku:
1 栗の実ぐらいの石
2 石垣や地盤固めに用いる、直径十数センチの石。割りギリ石。

Google, what size is cobblestone? 75-250 mm

https://southbaymaterials.com/products/cobbles#:~:text=Cobble landscaping rocks are naturally, ponds, and as natural accents.

https://www.aisf.or.jp/~jaanus/deta/k/kuriishi.htm
Also pronounced guri-ishi. Chestnut stones. Small stones (10-30cm in diameter) that were used as packing or backfill. Larger kuri-ishi were used to fill the cracks and spaces among ordinary stones *hira-ishi 平石, or the face of a castle's stone wall *ishigaki 石垣. Smaller kuri-ishi were used to back-fill the main stones, of a castle wall. Layers of chestnut stones might be one meter thick. Chestnut stones used as backfill were also called uragome-ishi 裏込石 (see *uragome 裏込), literally meaning stones to pack behind the main stones, or tsume-ishi 詰石 (packing stones).
  Comments:
I can't figure out what this *is*, but I am pretty confident that it is not cobblestone.

It's not this:
https://sslandscapesupply.com/product-tag/cobblestone/

There are more flexible definitions of "cobblestone" that might overlap, but they aren't what one would usually imagine.

栗石 more often than not these days seems to refer to 割栗石 wish covers a wide range of crushed rock/stone. The main characteristic of 栗石 is that it always appears in the context of construction (particularly historic excavations, walls, foundations, etc.). Bigger than gravel, *smaller* than cobblestone is one definition I found.

But the size isn't even fixed. Here someone just says "50cm幅の栗石が発見され", in an old wall. Here it may be referring to its quality as a large, naturally rounded river stone.
https://twitter.com/jcvd2000/status/1276290833302487040/photo/1

(The twitter poster may simply be wrong).

What really makes it a 栗石 seems to me to be that someone built something out of it (or that someone is imagining its use as a building material).

Here you can buy small, medium ,and large 栗石, the largest advertised as 最長対角線が1000mmを超える庵治石。 (庵治石 特大栗石)
https://ajirock.jp/ajiishi/ex_large_guristone

It's as if the word has lost all nuance. The best gloss is usually just "stone(s)".

I really wanted to do away with "cobblestones"- especially since it's not at all clear how "crushed cobblestones" = "crushed rock" (I don't think 割栗石 is the result of crushing 栗石, but rather the creation of 栗石 by crushing larger rocks), but I haven't found an adequate replacement.

Some kind of target introduced by を or は would seem to be required.

This is reflected in the original entries here:
研究社 新和英中辞典での「壮」の英訳
https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/壮
壮とする
admire 《somebody's courage》
approve of 《somebody's noble enterprise》.

Hard to find examples in the wild, quite rare.

Changed "ambition" (which is a character trait) to "ambitions", which are particular plans. This is also reflected in "approve of 《somebody's noble enterprise》" (which I rather like, but wouldn't feel right to copy). This seems to be a clear translation of 志を勇ましいとみとめる, where 認める has a rather large variety of nuances when translated to English. I think that rather than 認める = "approve", that it's probably more like "acknowledge/recognize". "To recognize the bravery/courage/gallantry of a persons aims..." or something like that.

Searched twitter, all forms represented with photos. I don't know by what logic one would order ほおそめる and ほほそめる. Clearly "ほお" is the "modern" form, maybe the whole expression is a little dated though? I would be cautious of ordering differently between 頬を染める and 頬染める if there isn't some very compelling reason...

If anything ほほ seems more prevalant when spelled out, but perhaps that's because it is the exception to the rule, and 頬染める would usually be read ほお.

この母にしてこの子あり
この親にしてこの子あり
瓜の蔓に茄子はならぬ
蛙の子は蛙

"the apple doesn't fall", following google's rough estimates, is 5~10x more common than either variant previously here.

I get that we generally avoid contractions, but in this case it appears to be idiomatic.

I read the past discussion on wording. This is one of these idiom common-to-uncommon mismatches where we'd arguably be better off giving a meaning "children take after their parents", and offering no analogous idiom whatsover(let alone two minor variants). "In Jp, “The apple never falls far from the tree” becomes 狐の子は頬白 (fox pups have white cheeks). "

Except not really, because this expression seems to border on nonexistent in Japanese.

  Comments:
Quite interesting, the dictionary definition that would cover this sense is "apple-cheeked", and not "apple cheeks". The latter appears to refer to the firm, rounded quality of the cheeks more than the color. (Perhaps this was not always the case, but it seems to be today.)

This is a case where I don't see why a J->E gloss would need the extra idiomatic gloss when the literal translation is quite adequate anyway. since "apple cheeks" seems to have at least one, common, completely different meaning, the simplest thing seems to be to drop it.

Once I submit this, I'll vote to delete. Red cheeks = 赤い頬? This seems obvious enough

See Instead: 足並みが揃う 足並みを揃える

Started because I didn't think this gloss matched very well, then discovered that there was already a better entry in the affirmative.

Essentially, even if the negative might be a little more popular, it is still redundant.

This isn't "failing to reach an agreement". It's "failing to get on the same page", maybe "failing to see eye to eye", "failing to work in unison". If you like any of these, I think they should be added on the main entries 足並みが揃う and 足並みを揃える。

From the earlier reference: "lack of concerted action among the strikers", "concerted" was the key term. "to act in concert" . The strikers are failing to work as a cohesive group to attain their goals (they are disorganized, they don't agree on demands, etc...)

Because these are ordinary verb structures, the alternative is to add every negated variant of note:
足並みを揃えない	353	5.5%
足並みをそろえない	240	3.7%

足並みを揃えず	58	0.9%

  Comments:
Clone of xref, + "to be on the same page".

I think these are roughly synonymous. Other form is more common.

Not clear to me yet if the difference between を and が implies different formulations:
"to be in step with" "to be keeping pace with" "to be moving in lockstep" "to be in alignment with" (and in the other direction, "to get on the same page")

I won't try to solve this one.

足並みが揃う has an entry has an entry in jmdict as negation(which is where I started), and which I am going to go vote to delete.
