|
Comments: | In common speech the word "surgery" more commonly refers to the act itself than to the field (it can mean either). The word "外科" refers to the field (分野,部門), but not to the act. The single word "surgery" is ambiguous for beginners who don't yet thoroughly understand the kanji "科"; they may see the first and second definitions as being *contrasted* and think the first definition refers to the act. Thus it is better to explicitly specify so as to clearly differentiate the word from 手術 (the act / "operation"). ("Surgery" is built from Greek roots meaning "hand" + "work" just like 手術.) |

Comments: | This is used in figurative expressions that refer to dying at sea but I don't think it's correct to say that 藻屑 itself means "death at sea". 海の藻屑と消える and 海の藻屑となる (both in jmdict) appear to account for almost all of this figurative usage. I think the second sense can be dropped. The JEs and most of the kokugos only have one sense. |

Comments: | At least in the monarchical context, the presumptive heir is an heir who may lose their claim do to birth of another child in the family (such as a newborn son trumping an older sister). The heir apparent cannot be trumped in this way, and basically only loses their claim if they die first. Comments: | I submitted a proposal for an entry for キャラクターボイス as well. . Note that when the term "character voice" is used by English-speaking anime or game fans, it means "the voice created for the character by the actor" rather than "the voice actor". Examples from the Web: - Kurei Kei is the first character (Character Voice by Sumire Uesaka)! - Each CD single contains two songs (sung in character voice by the seiyuu) and two karaoke tracks. - made up of the characters Mikumo Guynemer (character voice by Koshimizu Ami, ... - character voice by gorgeous voice actors! - Ciel / Character Voice by Rie Tanaka - Magical Pop'n, character voice by Ai Iijima - Voice actor unit of Amamiya Sora (雨宮 天), Takahashi Rie, and Kayano Ai in character voice provide the ending theme Chiisana Bokensha |

Comments: | And here is ChatGPT's response: The Japanese term 亢竜有悔 (kōryū yūkai) is a proverb that can be translated to "Pride precedes a fall" or "When the dragon rises high, there is regret." This proverb warns against excessive pride or arrogance that may lead to failure, disappointment, or regret. In the proverb, the dragon symbolizes a person's ambitions, power, or success. When the dragon becomes too confident and overreaches, it risks falling from a great height and experiencing regret. The proverb emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance between ambition and humility, and being mindful of the risks and consequences of one's actions. |
