we've been weird about including or not including 旧字体. there was a period when we accepted them regardless. this seems fair, although i still think it would be best to have the general rule of not including them at all. obunsha says 馴染〔み〕, like shinmeikai.

koj is a mystery to me. Picking some entries with [io] tags from JMdict at random, I see koj has 不服申立て rather than 不服申立, 下読み rather than 下読, and 下履き rather than 下履.

But also, koj has 不釣合 rather than 不釣り合い, and 中入 rather than 中入り. So I'm not sure what the logic is.

That said, I'm not fussed if [io] is used for this entry.

  Comments:
Indeed. I think it's quite appropriate here. ハメる is a vulgar word in this context.
14. A* 2023-01-16 19:38:06  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I don't agree. The word "fuck" is indeed vulgar but I think it's OK to use such words in the appropriate contexts. I see it's used in over 30 entries.
13. A* 2023-01-16 15:21:37  Akemi Orlando <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
in definition 6, the "to #*ck" part should be deleted; it is vulgar to use in English. You could say intercourse if wanted, but "to have sex" is clear enough.

To get rid of the messy restr tags, I propose dropping 掻き上げ, which only applies to archaic/obscure senses. Daijr doesn't even have it. Most (if not all) of the the ngram counts come from the verb.
The castle sense is also very obscure and only in daijr and nikk. I don't think it's needed.

not sure about that. at least in koj 6, the relevant sense says '(「掻揚げ」と書く)'. daijs also has both headwords, but likewise restricts this sense to 掻揚げ.
our own entry for あげる restricts the deep-frying sense to 揚 as well:
(5) (揚げる only) to deep-fry
  Comments:
if this is going to remain as the only sense in this entry, then i think 上 versions should remain as iK. if additional senses are added, then the iK can come off, and the tempura sense can be restricted to 揚 versions

This seems to be a wasei term for some sort of business. It needs a proper gloss; not a transliteration.

マクワウリ is also listed as jukujikun for 甜瓜 in nikk and meikyo, so perhaps this could be merged into the entry for 真桑瓜 instead.
