Picking some entries with [io] tags from JMdict at random, I see koj has 不服申立て rather than 不服申立, 下読み rather than 下読, and 下履き rather than 下履. But also, koj has 不釣合 rather than 不釣り合い, and 中入 rather than 中入り. So I'm not sure what the logic is. That said, I'm not fussed if [io] is used for this entry. |

The term may be *the* example of a word-in-transformation in Japanese. I was *taught* to say "hwinki", in Japan, in a Japanese classroom, by a late-20s/early-30s Japanese teacher. The impression was that your speech would sound a bit stilted if you tried to say huniki. (perhaps like "whatcha doin?"/ "what are you doing") |

Comments: | Thank you for the submission. The Ingo Daijiten contains a lot of words you won't find attested anywhere else, even in literature, lots of them Meiji-period slang/thieves' cant. It's an interesting historic document but I don't think using it as the sole source for an entry is appropriate. |

Comments: | I don't know if this is needed, but either way, I don't think the glosses are good, I mean it's literally "to make a design elaborate", the current glosses make the subject something else. |

Comments: | I'm just visiting random entries now to learn it seems. Googled for more references. Roughly the Russian equivalent of Santa Claus. Google finds matches for マロース爺さん マロースじいさん ジェド・マロース ジェドマロース マロースおじさん マロースおじいさん マロースお爺さん In roughly that order, but the top matches are fairly close together. I searched this dictionary for names suffixed じさん and found nothing, so I am guessing there is a preference to not enter terms this way. マロース clearly functions as a standalone title though. |
