Comments: | There's another use for this, meaning something like "wrapping once around", which isn't really captured in the current meanings. It's the use of 巻き in a context like 帯を二巻きします (wrap the obi twice around) or 車を二巻きにして砕きそうな大蛇 (a snake so big it could wrap twice around a car and crush it). It's closer to the 巻き meaning #2, "winding". I believe that, like meaning 4, this use is restricted to the まき reading, so I've added it there. Please adjust if necessary. |

Comments: | I think "interrupt" and "cut into (a conversation)" are better as translations for 口を挟む or 言葉を挟む. I've added some more glosses. I've made a separate sense for "catch (a finger, etc.)" (as in meikyo). It looks a bit out of place in sense 1. Added a "to harbour" sense (in GG5 and daijs). The sentences need updating (only 3 are indexed). |

A recent decision by the government statistician to restrict the "town" category to settlement with populations of more than 200 has caused outrage. |

Comments: | The meaning above seems to me to give slightly the wrong impression; albeit that Kenkyusha supports it. In the English interpretation, in the mind of an Englishman, one at least, this gives the impression of an office in a village. Whereas, in reality this one Englishman thinks that it really means an official office [e., official village office - somewhat smaller than a town hall might imply]. I am sure that a Japanes person would only associate this entry with something similar to the Parish Council Offices [like we have in England]. Your other entries and elsewhere confirm the official nature of "役場", for example:- 役場 【やくば】 (n) town hall; (P) 役人 【やくにん】 (n) government official; (P) I am suggesting that something implying the concept of official is included in the meaning. |
