i'm okay with [adj-no,n] and i've submitted that way.  so those entries certainly exist already.  fwiw, meikyo and nikk call this word a noun (although its primary use is certainly adj-no)

I'm not really comfortable with "adj-no,n". If it's a noun, I think that should be first. "adj-no" usually means "as well as being a noun, it works as an adjective with the genitive case particle", although there are cases where the word is really only an adjective.
In this case, I'm pretty sure it's not a noun, so I suggest dropping the "n", making it  stay as an adjective alone.

Edit + split proposal

Add 止まる (and kana とどまる) as ok spelling for “be limited to” – it’s what’s given in GG5, and I have a newspaper article with it written as とどまる.

On a different note, might we consider splitting とまる and とどまる ? They’re closely related, but seem sufficiently different in use that GG5, 大辞林 and 広辞苑 all separate them.
Further, they have a *lot* of meanings (very polysemous), so to the extent that we can separate them, it would make the individual entries a bit shorter and clearer.

I read this in the context of a small business, which I’m interpreting as “small family business” (which is the literal meaning), though the thesaurus site seems to use it more generally as “small scale”, which is also plausible, so I’ve put that too.

Regarding the reading, beware that this is *irregular* – the (much more common) 大所帯 is おお〜 but this is しょう〜 instead of the expected こ〜 (compare 大判／小判). This puzzles native speakers as well, as the forum references indicate.

(I meant sense 1 of とまる.) Yes, I agree. A native speaker has commented on Tatoeba that they are all とまる. I think I'll just close this off, and if anyone points out that sentence X is better as やまる, I'll change it.

i would guess that most example sentences are とまる.

Yes, at the time the sentences were linked there was only one 止まる entry. It is now split into 3. I have modified the indices; connecting them to either とまる or とどまる. I can't easily work out which should be とまる sense 2 or やまる sense 2, so at present やまる is missing out.
Any ideas?
