BTW, re the 2017 comment: `For うかがえる JMdict says "See: 伺う,..."', Actually JMdict never said that, it's a function in WWWJDIC that tries to point users towards possibly useful entries when they look up an inflected form. I've updated the file so that the うかが* batch now points to both 伺う and 窺う.

OK, finally moving on this one. I've remodelled the entry along the lines of GG5 and other JEs. I'll approve and reopen, as I want to sort out the example sentences, most of which are for the proposed first two senses.

From the quoted references, it would appear 'to go' (or even 'to come') is a more apt translation than 'to visit'. In almost all examples in both sources, translating in to 'go' seems to make more sense. For example, in the former reference, the following example is given: 「...お決まりになりましたら、お伺いいたします。」Clearly the waitress in this example is saying 'Once you've decided your order, I'll come back.' rather than 'I'll visit you again.' In fact, these sources even liken 伺う to 参る (and 行く), which means 'come/go' (the only difference being 謙譲語I and 謙譲語II).
