English dictionaries say "by" is a preposition and adverb. Japanese doesn't have English-style prepositions. I can't find useful examples of it being used in Japanese, so for want of anything better, I'll call it an adverb.

  Comments:
although already listed with kanji used for kurami, that entry did not appear when i entered ”立ちくらみ" as it appears in the novel I'm reading. I think this written form should be added to the other entry so that it gets hits. (in this age of kanji-minimalism, i think many people will write it this way.) I also question the use of the gloss "giddiness" as this word literally means that things start to go black when you stand. It's happened to me and I was far from "giddy."
