Comments: | I think there's a meaning for this word that is missing... something more like "furiously", but not in the sense of being angry... rather the sense of doing something as quickly/earnestly/vigorously/enthusiastically as possible. I've seen it used that way, and this is also reflected in the example sentence for this word: 警官がやってくるのを見ると彼は猛烈に走り出した。 When he saw a policeman coming, he began to run like anything. The subject wasn't running violently, vehemently, or ragefully, which are the current definitions for 猛烈. |

Comments: | Following up: * GG5 separates 夏季(かき10) and 夏期(かき11) …as do 大辞林 and 広辞苑 Some of the smaller dictionaries do merge them, such as 研究社中 ジーニアス and 新解さん Also, it should probably be consistent across seasons (currently EDICT has the other seasons split). * GG5, 大辞林, and 広辞苑 all consistently split them. * 新解さん consistently merges them. * 研究社中 and ジーニアス tend to merge them, but don’t include many of the 〜期 forms (e.g. 秋期) I’m fine either way (they’re quite close in meaning), but that’s why I suggested splitting this too – the more detailed/major dictionaries do so. |

Comments: | * Add spelling 汁だく which is very common (also often written as kana). * Pointedly did *not* add the spelling 汁沢 – it’s firstly quite rare (~5k Google hits, vs 1m+ for others), and secondly unclear that this is the etymology (may be from だくだく rather than 〜沢山+連濁). If we want to include v. obscure (mis?-)spellings, 汁沢 is permissible, though I’d rather wait until someone sees it in the wild (if you do, please add it). |
