I think there's a meaning for this word that is missing... something more like "furiously", but not in the sense of being angry... rather the sense of doing something as quickly/earnestly/vigorously/enthusiastically as possible.

I've seen it used that way, and this is also reflected in the example sentence for this word:

警官がやってくるのを見ると彼は猛烈に走り出した。 When he saw a policeman coming, he began to run like anything.

The subject wasn't running violently, vehemently, or ragefully, which are the current definitions for 猛烈.

I don't have any objections to the edit, but re: the [rK] tag at 4%, I just assumed that most of the n-gram counts were from personal names. I should have included that explanation, though.

i agree with Nils here.  ultimately it doesn't really matter to me as long as we're consistent.  in this case, i probably lean toward splitting since that's what the majority of my refs do (although it's a fine line)

possibly should be merged in one entry with several kanji
