Comments: | I am using this submission as an example of the point which I wish to make. When the novice sees a headword like, for example, "中医," with the translation of "Chinese medicine" it make sense. When the novice sees "中医学," with the translation of "Chinese medicine," the sense seems to fall away a little. In the context of the above remark, see the following entry:- 中医 【ちゅうい】 (n) Chinese medicine. However, I have to say that your site is not out of keeping with other reference works. Indeed, elsewhere, many headwords which end with "学" also have the same translation as the relative headwords without the addition of "学." Searching around further, some references give the translation for "中医学" as "Chinese medicine science [I personally would have opted for "Chinese medical science"]". And, likewise for other disciplines. Also on your own site, you have, in at least one case, also included the "study" concept where the discipline ends with "学," for example, see below:- 医歯薬学 【いしやくがく】 (n) (study of) medicine, dentisty and pharmacology. [incidentally, note spelling mistake in the above entry: "dentistry"] Maybe, you have a policy that controls a headword which includes the suffix of "学," but if the entries have simply gradually grown, then, perhaps you will give some guidance on the amending of entries by inviting deletion of any reference to the word "study" or "science." Or, in the alternative, give a signal that whenever someone sees the addition of the suffix "学" in an entry, which does not already include a reference to study, etc., an amending submission would be welcome. |

Comments: | this is not what the lsrc tag is used for. it gives etymology of loanwords. i can't find any evidence of the french being adopted as the common term in english, so i suggest it be omitted altogether. otherwise it has to be included as an ordinary gloss |

Comments: | * Add French source (Term is calque from Monadologie, by Leibniz, and is a key part of his theory of monads) * Philosophical term (ideally flagged as such: [fld=phil]) * Term appears to be used in noh – rather, my (v. intellectual) kyōgen instructor used this term to describe how noh actors interact: they’ve all practiced their roles, but only rehearse once together, so while the actors do not (in the main) affect each other, still they appear to interact harmoniously because they are all following a plan (as in Leibniz’s theory of monads). I don’t know if this (noh application) is a standard usage of the term, but the term is certainly used in Japanese philosophy. |

Comments: | Re these terms: - clearly てゆうか, て言うか and って言うか need to be added somewhere. They could go here where we already have the related ってゆうか and てゆーか - should we split those starting with っ into their own entry (just asking - I don't have a problem with them here.) - I really can't see why ていうか should be on its own, with てゆーか and (potentially) てゆうか and て言うか here. One sense or two? I think Robin is saying just one. |

Comments: | Clarify/correct definition. AFAICT, this is a *general* term for chilled, plated soba (regardless of specific serving dish). As per the references (most directly WP), it’s used relatively interchangeably with ざるそば and せいろそば (to the point that the 国語辞書 often *define* it that way), but as usage and etymology make clear, it’s “plated” soba generally, as opposed to being in a bowl of broth. Usage is confusing enough that I’d propose linking to ざるそば and せいろそば for clarity. |
