Comments: | On fictional entries: It's a fine line indeed, but for this entry I felt adding the grue was good for these reasons: * Most references to グルー I see in Google do not refer to glue, but to the grue or foreign names and concepts. Adding the grue sense and referencing 接着剤 should aid learners of Japanese. * The Wikipedia link from WWWJDIC points to an article on the grue. We should not link to Wikipedia if the article there does not reflect one of the senses we have. * The concept of a grue is arguably part of a broader (internet, gaming, cult) culture; not as common as the venerable zombie or the unicorn, but certainly more generic than, say, a specific Harry Potter character. Hope this helps. |

Comments: | The Wikipedia link for this entry actually points to an article about the grue, not glue. Hence the addition of sense 2. This example sentence is present in that article, and looks innocent and well-known enough to perhaps add to the example sentence set for sense 2: 真っ暗闇です。あなたはグルーに食べられそうです。 It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue. |

Comments: | The example sentence that appears with this entry seems inappropriate: 済み; 済(io) 【ずみ; すみ】 (n-suf,n) (pronounced ずみ only when a suffix) arranged; taken care of; settled; completed [Edit][Ex][G][GI][S][A] [G][GI][S][A] 彼のいっしょうは社会のしたずみで終わった。 He lived and died in obscurity.[Amend] . I think it's not ずみ in this sentence, but rather したづみ【下積み】 新和英中辞典 has 下積みになっている 〈人が〉 live one's life in obscurity |

Comments: | Add [ctr] to bank sense – saw used in article on LIBOR, discussing use by 16 banks (and drop 4 banks on top and bottom when computing the average, etc.). * * * (BTW, my previous proposed addition of “trading” etc. should actually have referred to the 6th definition in my 広辞苑, whose first half is “guild”, and whose second half reads: また、問屋・仲介業者あるいは単に商店を指す。 As per Rene’s comment, this seem more likely to simply be destination, probably 行き(いき/ゆき) w/o the okurigana. Thanks!) |

Comments: | This is a distinctive item in kyōgen (just used on NHK program tonight); 大辞林 has a good picture. Hope definition is ok – it’s a bit intricate to describe, b/c it’s so unfamiliar (I’ve omitted minor details, like the knob/horn-like bits at the top). I wonder if the 葛(かずら) is a corruption/respelling of 鬘 “headdress, wig”, which makes more sense etymologically. |
