Comments: | Previous entry (“comic interlude”, as given in GG5) was misleading, dare I say *wrong*? 大辞林 gives a very clear and detailed definition. Aikyōgen is not a comic interlude, but is a brief, dramatic, generally *expositionary* section within a noh play. I didn’t catch this earlier and got confused because kyōgen co-occurs with noh in *2* ways: as a separate (comic) play, *between* noh plays (this is just called “kyōgen”), and as a scene *within* a single noh play (this is what aikyōgen refers to, as the 国語辞書 make clear). This was clarified to me b/c I went to a noh performance today, and both these occurred, with only the (very serious, not at all comic) scene *within* the noh play being referred to (in the program) as “aikyōgen” (as in the 国語辞書 and as I’ve corrected it here). I’ve gone into rather more detail over at WP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikyōgen |

Comments: | I sat on this proposed edit for a while. No references or other support is provided, but it basically chops 8 senses down to 5. I see GG5 has 6 senses for this and Dair/s have 7 each. I think the best thing is simply to reject it. The entry possibly could do with some tweaking but as usual, there needs to be a case made. |

Comments: | There's another sense of this word that isn't captured in the current meanings, and it's one I've seen a few times. For example, in the sentence 本校について説明した方が良さそうだな。 It's something like "would be good (to do)" or "would be a good idea"... I saw it defined on one web page as "sounds good" (as in "sounds like a good idea" not as in a pleasant audio experience). If you understand my meaning, perhaps you have a good way to put it into words? I don't feel like I'm doing a great job. |

Comments: | i think it's another error in gg5... their "Daemonoropus draco" gets 1 hit. google's recommended "Daemonorops draco" gets 117,000 ===== also, kokugos define it only as the resin of 竜血樹, which is "Dracaena" according to all sources (inc. gg5). "Dracaena" and "Daemonorops" aren't the same, as per wikipedia's entry for Dracaena: "A bright red resin, dragon's blood, is produced from [Dracaena] draco and, in ancient times, from D. cinnabari. Modern dragon's blood is however more likely to be from the unrelated Daemonorops rattan palms." ===== i wonder if this is a case of someone translating きりんけつ as "dragon's blood" and then another editor coming along later and adding the (wrong) species name based on the english. in any case, at the very least their spelling is wrong. |
