  Comments:
Previous entry (“comic interlude”, as given in GG5) was misleading, dare I say *wrong*? 大辞林 gives a very clear and detailed definition.

Aikyōgen is not a comic interlude, but is a brief, dramatic, generally *expositionary* section within a noh play.

I didn’t catch this earlier and got confused because kyōgen co-occurs with noh in *2* ways: as a separate (comic) play, *between* noh plays (this is just called “kyōgen”), and as a scene *within* a single noh play (this is what aikyōgen refers to, as the 国語辞書 make clear).

This was clarified to me b/c I went to a noh performance today, and both these occurred, with only the (very serious, not at all comic) scene *within* the noh play being referred to (in the program) as “aikyōgen” (as in the 国語辞書 and as I’ve corrected it here).

I’ve gone into rather more detail over at WP:

was working on this one when previous submission was approved. senses could be split umpteen different ways. i think it makes sense to do it like this
-armpit gets merged into 'side' (although gg5 separates by kanji, there's absolutely no evidence for this in kokugo dictionaries) and 'side/aside' get split
-'backburner' gets absorbed by "to the side" (e.g., "let's put the matter to the side for the moment)

▶ (uk) blue rock-thrush (Monticola solitarius)

History:
2. R 2011-07-26 03:12:29  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
merged the katakana into existing entry.

for future reference, please add katakana by editing old entries, rather than submitting new entries. katakana goes in the reading field (not the headword field) as イソヒヨドリ[nokanji]. [uk] should also be in square brackets
1. A* 2011-07-26 02:32:51  Vincent Gross <...address hidden...>
  Refs:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/イソヒヨドリ
  Comments:
Word already in Dict, but Kanji only, and no scientific name given. Katakana is normal. Also, "rockthrush" seems to be written as two words, or hyphenated, not as one word as in the Dict. BTW, beautiful plumage!

Large number of spellings; best guess (thanks with Google) for order. The full 〜かり okurigana are probably preferred formally (P), following notes at 掛かり.

Also used in some other (more general) senses, but not sure of details.
