Comments: | Hmmmm. So GG5's "〔アパート・貸しビルなどの入居者〕 a tenant." is wrong when it mentions "アパート"? Actually, it probably is. I'll trim it down a bit - it is rather tautological now. |

Comments: | Ok, WP to the rescue – it does state that this is used for *commercial* use. Specifically, it states (somewhat confusingly): “A tenant is a person who contracts to lease a dwelling to abode therein. But in modern-day Japan it is used exclusively to mean …[various kinds of] (shops).” (i.e., basically it’s a resident, but today it means a commercial tenant). The specific line is: 「ただし、現代の日本では、。。。事業者(店舗)のこととして専ら用いる。」 Notably 「専ら用いる」 “exclusively used”, AFAICT. |

Comments: | Specify *commercial*. I had vaguely assumed that テナント and 入居者 were synonyms (casual gloss is “tenant” and Japanese friends felt they were different but didn’t clarify much) until I saw a building with: 1Fテナント募集 2F入居者募集 …on it, explicitly contrasting them. …and then more checking revealed that テナント is esp. commercial (it seems exclusively commercial), while 入居者 is primarily residential, but sometimes commercial. I’ve tried to reflect this in amended entries. |

When it follows an ordinary word like "おかあさん", the connection is not so clear. When the novice searches your site for "ゆずり" nothing comes up. If it was a link as suggested, I guess that it would come up on the search and clarify the matter. You have the following on the site:- 譲り 【ゆずり】 (?) ???; RH 譲り 【ゆずり】 taking over; WI1 |

Comments: | I don't think there are any situations where 酔っ払う couldn't be used for "drunk". Both describe quite high (but not necessarily extreme) degrees of intoxication. In my experience, there's no difference in nuance. |

Comments: | I think that's the point of meikyo's definition: so drunk that you lose motor control, have trouble standing up, speaking clearly. you canbe "drunk" i english without any of that happening. but it is quite embedded in 酔っ払う's definition. |

Comments: | I have not altered the above, but I am wondering whether the generalisation of the above description as being simply "to enrich and strengthen " is correct. When, as I understand it, the concept was a very firm policy to bring about a rich country and strong army; and moreover a thing which is basically about Japan [following the restoration]as opposed to a description for countries which are generally intending to become enriched and strenthened. See the basic description of the following entry:- 富国強兵 【ふこくきょうへい】 (n) wealth and military strength of a country; "rich country, strong army": a slogan from the Meiji era referring to the government's goals for the country |
